Ya, you hate to see something like that happen. I felt a little sick watching him laying there without moving at all.

Is this a Willie Martinez thing with the db's laying the wood like this? Seems this entire defense has a bit of an attitude

Their backup QB only played that well because he had a porn mustache. We all should know the power of the stache'. Well played Tricket, well played.

I was really happy to see him back on the sideline. He did get rocked. I love big hits but I don't like it when people get hurt (even though we all know it happens in football).

I love it. I hated the bad calls though. About Shaw, I thought he may have had a spinal injury. I knew he wasn't dead because his arms curled up. That indicated a concussion or spinal injury.

Also glad that the receiver is ok...Didn't think it was a dirty hit, though...I wish Brent "Furburger" wouldn't do Sooner's Games...He's so much a cheerleader for the opposition...Got me when Stills brought down that amazing catch for a 1st down and both guys initially thought it was incomplete...Brent & his wishful thinking, I'm guessing.

Great play by the secondary on that play.....did not deserve the penalty.

Glad the receiver is OK

I don't have any medical background so I didn't have the insight Okie35 did. The first thing I thought was a quote from Bob from earlier this year. I forget the specifics but the gist of it was, Tom is going to kill someone.

I hate any injury in football, I always feel so bad for the kid. That kind of hit is on a whole other level though. I would rather him be OK than win the game. I am just glad that it looks like we were able to have both.

Very thankful

seriously, did Musberger really say something about it being a malicious hit? THat flag was utter bull****. Musberger has aged 15 years in the past 12 months, I think it's time for him to hang it up

Glad their QB and receiver are both OK. When I saw the receivers arms freeze in the air above his non-moving body I was seeing flashbacks to the paralyzed player last season :(

EJ clearly shed some tears in the locker room when they told him he couldn't play the rest of the game, based on his red eyes after the game. I feel sorry for him, but it looks like FSU has a good backup ready to go.

100% correct.....was not a dirty hit. Actually should have been our ball....he took two steps....got the sheet knocked outta him and dropped the ball. I knew it wouldnt go our way though.......

Glad he is OK....but that is football.

Glad the defense is doing GREAT!!!

The problem with Trickett is that he's one big hit from being broken in half. He may have the skillset but I'm not sure he's physically mature enough yet to be the starting QB at this level.

Why wasn't that our ball???

1) They ruled it incomplete
2) You don't get the ball when they flag you anyway

The penalty didn't bother me because I've seen it called that way maybe 50% of the time. You don't have to lead with the helmet to get the flag, you just have to go high on the hit. It was close because the guy took a step and a half and could have been declared a runner and no longer a defenseless receiver - just didn't go our way. The hit itself was a real fluke that 2 guys hit him at exactly the same time - nothing dirty there.

I thought the game was very clean with both teams showing respect for each other. The only one I would have flagged was the elbow put on Stills - I thought it was obvious at full speed.

I'm sorry but that hit doesn't even hold a candle to the hit they did on JT Thatcher in the 2000 MNC. They held his head up and then went through it. That hit today would probably get someone ejected. How Thatcher walked away from that I'll never know.

The only real problem with the call was that it was Wort who lead with the head, not Harris. Wort popped him right below the earhole in the back which probably knocked him out.

He lifted his arm when he was carted off the field and the crowd cheered. Surprised that nobody noticed that.

It was a bad personal foul call, but they had a pretty weak one against FSU too. Honestly, I was worried that they would rule that a catch and maybe a TD upon review. I think Jimbo was too busy worrying about his receiver to do a challenge. It actually might have been a catch and fumble in the EZ for us though.

First, I'm glad Shaw's OK.

Nobody wants to ever see a kid taken off the field on a stretcher. Ever.

And while I was adamant that no flag should have been thrown right after the play. But it was a borderline hit that resulted in a receiver getting knocked out.

Those optics pretty much left the refs no choice but to call it a personal foul. Perhaps if they had the advantage of instant replay, they wouldn't have called it.

But I understand 100% why they did in real time.

In todays football it was prolly a good flag. Do I think it should have been? No. I know peeps keep saying this but we're not too far away from playing with flags or two-hand touch. :beguiled:

I'd like to see a screen shot of that because to me it didn't look like either defender hit with their helmet.

problem is the ref WAITED til he saw the kid laying motionless...THEN threw the flag..

glad he was ok, but it was not a PF...imho...but like I told the kids I coach in bball..obviously it was...they CALLED it! LOL

I was really surprised the hit on Stills didn't draw a flag after that. The only thing I could think of was that since Stills was falling down and the guy fore-armed him to the face that I guess it wasn't high, but that was a vicious hit and much more illegal looking than the Shaw one. imho

Why wasn't that our ball???

I'm grateful for the "incomplete" pass call. Had they said that it was a completed pass they would have had the ball on the 2 inch line with the penalty negating the fumble. I personally think that it was a "legal" hit and a fumble. Could have been much worse of a call for us.
On another note. I'm glad as heck that he was sandwiched. If not we could have lost 2 players on that play as they were likely to hit each other had they not hit Shaw. They might have scored and the game may have been much different.

Additionally, since he was falling backward and it was a bang-bang play. There needs to be some room for interpretation for the targeting a defenseless player/hitting above the shoulder rule.

I thought the penalty was totally called wrong. It was clear the receiver had control of the ball, took a step with the ball, then got hit and fumbled as he fell into the end-zone, with OU recovering. They could have still called OU for a penalty, but it should have been our ball at the 10-yard line. It was almost like they were giving the receiver some kind of consideration for taking the hit?
