Oklahoma hasn't beat a Ranked Nonconference team on the Road since 1978 Reply

I'm talking opponent that has finished the season ranked. I'm also talking True Road game. WOW! They have lost 6 in a row and the team they beat was Stanford 35-29. My point is their biggest strength is its homefield advantage. Bob Stoops is 25-17 away from Norman in the last 6 years!

I seem to recall attending a game in Florida against fsu a few years back. That went well.

If that stat can cover Ryan Broyles, then it will help FSU.

then the last ranked road regular season non-conference game was Miami in 2009. they were ranked 17th.

Is that stat going to make them feel better after we beat their *** on Saturday?

The Orlando Sentinel also has pulled a bogus statistic out fo their @$$ that OU has lost to 9 non-conference teams on the road that they beat the year before since 2003. Since Stoops has been at OU the Sooners have lost only 6 games to non-conference teams andone of those was at home to TCU before beating them 3 years later in Norman.

The other losses to non-conference teams since 2003 were BYU who we didn't play the year before, UCLA, Oregon, and Miami.

Notre Dame was the only other non-conference loss during the Stoop's era in his first year.

but that isn't considered a true road game, either.

you have a hard time finding many games which fit this criteria. and then you have to say the team FINISHED ranked. not gonna be too many of those at all.

I'd say we had a lot less than home field advantage in the 2000 Orange Bowl.

Who was that we played again? My memory fails me.

FSU's last home win over a ranked non-conference opponent was #20 Florida in 2002. But Florida finished 8-5 and unranked. So you'll need to go back further than ESPN schedules.

Not that texas is a road game, but why would you pick 95? Texas was ranked highly in those early 2000s games..one time even number 3. This is a stupid stat because we rarely play ranked noncons on the road.

I wish folks would realize that bama was 4-8 and on probation that year. Thats not really a feather in our cap type win.

Sooo... they aren't counting bowl games then? Because all of those are on the road and I can't remember the last time we played one against a ranked opponent. Most of those teams finish the season ranked, since the season is practically over, anyway.

Say that we had more time to prepare for a bowl than a regular season game? Well, it's not like we bothered with a Coastal Carolina last week or anything :D

Wasnt Cincinnati at a neutral site?

Lawton4Life

Yes, it was at the Bengals stadium.

Miami was ranked and Oregon was ranked. Besides that, I'm not sure we've played another.

Florida State hasn't beaten OU since 1964. Has that for a useless stat?

SoonerAtKU
9/13/2011, 08:46 AM
It's hard to say which ones finished the season ranked. Teams usually don't fare well in the rankings after having 60 hung on them.

It's also a shame that beating ranked conference foes on the road seems to not count for anything anymore. I'm sure OSU thought they had a pretty good team at the end of the year last year.

Lawton4Life

If you remove bowl games and teams with a vowel in the university name, we havent won a ranked non conference road game ever.
