My 14 year old daughter, traveling alone, flew to San Diego this weekend for a student leadership planning session. She returns this evening. I didn't think about it when plans for this were made a couple of months ago - that she would be flying on the 10 anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

So I got a pass to escort her to the boarding gate. I went through the normal metal detector routine, but was "randomly" selected for an enhanced search.

"Where are you traveling today?"

"I'm not traveling. I'm just escorting my daughter to the gate."

"What luggage do you have with you [looking over at the conveyer belt]?"

"I don't have any luggage, I'm not traveling."

"What other possessions do you have?"

"My shoes. [Pointing to my shoes on the conveyer belt.]"

"We're going to do a palm screening test. It will be quick and easy."

I didn't, in any way, help my daughter pack. But it made me wonder how often they have caught a passenger with traces of explosives, attempting to board the plane, by using this test - or if it is simply a deterrent.

Fortunately, I passed the palm test and we move onto the gate. While my daugher eats a personal cheese pizza for breakfast, I notice a team of 5 TSA officers approaching the gate. There are signs posted that additional searches may be done at the boarding gate.

I don't know how they were chosen, but two female passengers were selected for additional screening. A female TSA officer did a body search on a young Asian lady. I was just a few feet away, and watched as the officer rubbed her gloved hands over the body of the lady in a way that reminded me of how one might tease a woman during foreplay - slowly rubbing all parts of the body - except for downtown and daffodil hills.... but traveling the full circumference of the base of her subtle breasts with the fingers.

The other lady chosen was a middle-aged woman in a business suit. She seemed to enjoy all the attention.

I pick up my daughter this evening. I don't know why they scheduled this thing to interfere with the Sunday night the Jets-Cowboys game.

If a female was hiding something it would probably be under her tits. I least that's what I tell my lady.

Stories like that make me sick. Treating normal passengers (or, in your case, an escort of a young passenger) with the assumption that they're smuggling explosives, and using this power to molest passengers, just to provide an illusion of extra security.

I flew home from LAX yesterday. No problems with security. Maybe it's cause I'm white.

the searches are a critical part of an overall security effort. I get that and try my best to go along with good humor and cooperation.

The TSA people, do, however, tend to have eyes that are a little smaller than the norm and waaaay closer together. (Think an overweight 'W' on a sunny day.)

But maybe that's a visual effect caused by their 'uni-brows' and mouth breathing.

Here's a dare: next time you're going through security, ask the TSA screener if they remove their rubber gloves when they go to the john.

But only if you really crave the body cavity search.
