Probably, but I had the misfortune of watching Mizzou last week and came away with one major observation. Franklin must be the most overhyped prospect I have seen. He looked terrible, their offense looked terrible, and perhaps the worst thing was that it was clear that Pinkel didn't trust Franklin at all. In the 4th quarter on a few drives they basically just conceded three and outs by pounding it into the middle of the line rather than let Franklin really put the game away. All I was hearing all summer was that Mizzou "might not miss a beat with Franklin" and that "Gabbert won't be missed." Totally false. Unless something radically changes between now and the 24th, our defense should absolutely shut Mizzou down.

Missouri had better hope that Franklin plays about 100 times better than he did against Miami. Their defense looks like it stayed in Columbia.

I think they're terrible. School colors all over the country are getting pushed aside for generic black, and every team wants to have a matte black helmet now. It's lame. The color gradients on the numbers are stupid, too. And the pitchfork makes them look like the the Poseidons, not the Sun Devils.

I don't think that's true even if you only count regular season games.

There are far too many different kinds of streaks nowadays. Regular season winning streaks. Non-conference winning streaks. Non-conference regular season home winning streaks. Conference opener away game winning streaks. OU is undefeated all-time in regular season non-conference home openers against teams from states with unicameral legislatures.

The uniforms aren't bad looking, but they're not Arizona State uniforms. I think we're going to start to see the Nike-ized homogenization of uniforms more and more. You'll flip through the channels and every game will be indistinguishable. At that point, what don't all the teams just start running the same offenses and we can call it the NFL.

Did any of you hear the interview with the PAC 12 Commissioner about realignment and how schools want to be in a stable conference. Sounded like David Boren speaking. Said they will be discussing realignment and growing the conference depending on the way it plays it. He had a big grin on his face about their TV contract and the possibility of growing. Said he has been contacted by a name school and waiting to see what happens. I couldn't tell if he said school or schools.

silverwheels
9/9/2011, 10:48 PM
Yeah, he was basically saying that the Pac-12 is fine in its current setup but will expand past 12 if another conference (SEC) does, so it's all hinging on A&M clearing the hurdles.

Hmm, it's actually UA that has all the ag programs. But maybe having a pig barn is not enough to make one aggy? Anyway, that doesn't mean ASU is not also aggy.

Exhibit One: Flashy new uniforms. Is this a one-off Nike promotion or are they pulling an Oregon like Stillwater Tech?

Exhibit Two: Bragging on their non-revenue sports, to wit golf. To be fair, that could have just been an ESPN thing.

Exhibit Three: Arizona State. Some land grant schools, like Nebraska and Wisconsin, try to fool you by not having "State" in the name. But it would be a rare land grant school that is not aggy. Or has Arizona thrown convention to the wind and reversed the names of their universities?

Has anyone explained why Missouri iced their own kicker?

They called the first time out to pull everyone over to the sideline and explain their strategy, which was to try to draw ASU offsides to make the field goal attempt five yards closer. Then they had to use the second time out because they ran the play clock all the way down.

As it was, Ressel barely missed the kick. Five yards closer and he'd have had it.
