Watching Joesph Randle is very convincing this has happened.

Slow your roll, David. It's still early in the season and Arizona is an average team. Besides, I think the consistency of OSU's offensive line deserves some credit for their running game as well.

Hard to tell when Arizona's defense is a sieve... lots of rebuilding this year, especially the Wildcat d-line.

This. I did forget they probably have to best OL in the Big 12. But my biggest reason for the Randle love was the amazing job of blitz pickup he did. Dom Whaley almost got LJ killed last week. Blitz pickup is way underrated.

They do always have a good line, at least as if the past couple of seasons. I argued last season on OP that Finch was better than Randall, I wouldn't be as confidant of that now. They're at least closer than I believed before.

I'm quite aware of who won those games. I'm also quite aware football is a team sport.

The question was when was the last time OSU had a better RB situation than OU. I submitted Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders. I don't recall who played RBs for OU during that time when Thomas was a senior and I believe Sanders was a soph. Were they better than the OSU duo? I dunno.
Were OU's RB All-American that year? I'll leave it to a stat hound.

I will admit I think Randle is pretty good but their backs aren't better.

Sooner_Tuf
9/9/2011, 02:43 AM
Spencer Tillman, Patrick Collins, Mike Gaddis, Lydell Carr. Don't leave out the QB's that ran the bone in that era Hollieway and Thompson weren't too shabby. Keith Jackson ran the ball well.

OU's running game won them a National Championship and played for a couple of more. It would be pretty hard to pick an era that OSU moved the ball better against ranked teams than OU, the 80's wouldn't be it.

No doubt Thurman and Barry were great backs. They weren't really a duo though and Sanders didn't really shine until Thomas was gone.

To be completely fair to Thomas (who was a great RB) he had to play against the Boz.

OSU wasn't very good in the Sanders years - he was great however. I remember them playing Nebraska and it was 63 to Zip. Then Barry went off for 42 straight points. 63-42

I watch Demarco Highlights and the guy was a super stud - I think our backs are more like Chris Brown - see what Finch does once he is out of the dog house - which I am sure he will be by FSU.

I disagree mostly because Hunter wasn't that fast..I never was worried about him breaking off a big play against OU. I can see the better runner at this point because of field vision not much else.

You are analyzing Gaddis and Sanders head to head. Are you factoring in the offensive lines? The defenses? The coaches/play callers? Home field? Very arguarable comparison. And that's just looking at one game.

I was thinking of Thomas/Sanders over a season versus Gaddis et al over a season. I recall Thomas was the starter with Barry as the backup and returning kicks. Scary kicking off to Barry Sanders.

Anyway, I would surmise it's been a long time since the Aggies had better RBs than the Sooners.

You are reading WAY too much into my post. I'm not analyzing ANYTHING. I was simply putting out the correct stats for Sanders (the 18 for 213 for Gaddis is right). If you want to do the OL/DL comparisons & the like, feel free to have at it.
