Worst summer, ever. Heavy heart this morning after hearing about Lee Roy's stroke yesterday evening. Prayers for Lee Roy to recover and to the first family of Oklahoma football for peace.

Bummer

Lee Roy Selmon remains hospitalized this morning in critical condition after the 56-year-old Hall of Famer suffered a stroke on Friday.

Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune reports that a spokesman for the University of South Florida said family members are calling the situation “grave.” False reports circulated Friday that Selmon, the only member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, had passed.

Lucious Selmon said his younger brother had a 20 percent chance of survivial with brain damage, according to KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City. It’s been reported that Selmon has a blood clot in his heart. He’s been a fundraiser for USF since stepping down as athletic director in 2004. He resigned from that role because of heart and stress issues, according to another brother Dewey Selmon.

Selmon is a revered figure in the Tampa community for the tireless work he’s done for decades.

Heck of a guy, terrible terrible news.

One of his brothers said earlier he was getting better. But they didn't know how much recovery was possible. Sounds pretty bad.

A former Orlando Sentinel writer who covered the Bucs when Lee Roy played for them had this to say about Lee Roy:

"My firm belief is that if Lee Roy Selmon hadn't been such an extraordinarily decent man, he would have been the greatest defensive end who ever played the game," Greene says. "The only thing that kept him from clearly being the best is that he had nothing resembling a killer instinct. He did his job and he did it well, but he never took any enjoyment or got any extra thrill out of leaving a quarterback injured on the ground. He was a great football player but an even better human being."

God bless Mrs. Selmon, and please watch over Lee Roy.

He's improving according to St Pete Times. Lucious & Dewey report he recognizes them & family. I'm proud of the love & respect my new hometown, Tampa, has expressed for Selmon.
