At what point does the elderly woman talking back to the computer screen at the grocery store's self check-out become sad instead of hilarious?

I will go with 45 minutes. If there is a huge line, maybe a full hour.

Let me give you some more details:

The lady was probably about 90. Very sweet lady. When it was her turn, she walked up to the self checkout and swiped her loyalty card (or whatever they call the store cards), and the computer says "Welcome back valued customer!", the she says "Hello" to the screen.

She scans a couple of things then puts some kind of produce on the scanner and says (to the screen) "I picked these up by the apples, how fresh are they". That's when I couldn't help but to laugh. I tried to explain to her that it was a computer and she needed a person, but she just smiled and kept talking to the screen.

I wasn't a complete dick...I finally found a person to help her, but that was some funny ****!

If I'm lucky enough to be alive at that age, I only hope I can't remember what's going on...I also think I'll be too busy checking out the ladies at the nursing home.

I live vicariously though the people that do things I feel like doing but would never do in public. The kid crying as the plane wobbles to an uncomfortable landing? Keep crying on my behalf, kid. The lady telling the self-checkout computer that it's incompetent and that the lines are too long? Preach it, older sister!
