In the new Sports Illustrated, this is what Shapiro said about the SEC. Basically saying what he did at Miami is nothing compared to what is going on in the SEC.

The Miami thing is the cake taker of improper benefits so far...so what say you about the SEC. Is it worse? Is Shapiro just trying to take down more with him? I mean we all know the SEC is dirty and schools like Auburn have already been caught paying players(yes Terry Bowden thats why your undefeated season doesnt count because Pat Dye was a cheater)..but is it on par with Miami.

Worse than at scUM. Fortunately the booster fans in the SEC are more diehard than booster of Miami and are less likely to spill the beans. Another reason I don't want OU to go to the SEC.

I honestly figure all the big-time, and most of the small-time college programs to be dirty to some extent.

Yeah, rule-breaking goes on at most places. The SEC is leading the pack, though.

I'd agree that's prolly true.

I agree that every school has got some improper benefits with gifts and money exchanging hands. With how brazen Shapiro was, I shudder to think what's going on in the SEC.

I'm beginning to think that some OU "fans" are either way too self-righteous, or scared to step out of their comfort zone. Unless that means stepping down to inferior competition.

Call it what you want, but the SEC is dirty, dirty, dirty. Our boosters would have to step up their game if we were to join the SEC.

I've never pretended that OU is clean. No program is, but the SEC is rewriting the book on rule-breaking.

What about him? He left OU because his handlers told him he should be getting paid and he wasn't. That crap from the Rev. Handler on ESPN - Marcus has debunked that myth from the beginning as the Rev. was just trying to take the spotlight off his own actions. The NCAA thoroughly investigated Dupree's recruitment and I am d@mn certain something would have come up back then if it were true.

I'm not saying OU's boosters are up to Mother Teresa's standards, but compared to the SEC they are definitely small time and working outside the university's knowledge.

I think itd be pretty naive to think one of the most highly recruited running backs in history wasnt given some serious payola. He said in that ESPN special that people were offering him cars and cash and everything else.....you believe him now when he says the dirt poor kid from Mississippi chose to go somewhere that WASNT going to give his momma some cash? I have a hard time with that.

I believe now that our program is as well run as a large "football machine" can be run. In other words I have no doubt that there are some skeletons hiding from this era. But NOTHING like the days of Marcus. And certainly nothing like Miami or SEC.

I talked to Billy Sims a few months ago about it. Marcus saw money in his head that wasn't there in reality. Once he realized he wasn't getting SMU treatment...he got depressed and homesick. Those of you that always take the "Naive" road have zero proof and only say stuff like everybody is doing it. I think it's pretty sad and a slam in the face of kids who took nothing, expected nothing and just loved the idea of playing in Norman and winning National Championships.

If you have proof of it....fine....if you don't...you should keep it zipped up IMHO.

IMHO this is a message board, created for those to share their HO. No I clearly have proof that Marcus Dupree took money. Im just using logic, perhaps unfairly, to say where there is smoke there is generally fire.

It's not really logic though. Logic is...You talked to a guy that was on the Team when Marcus was there and he was given some cash. Therefore Marcus was probably given some cash.

au contraire mon fraire
What Im saying is textbook logic
Again...Im not arguing that I have any proof. Only that its logical/reasonable to have a belief based on these things

a. Marcus was most sought after recruit in the history of ever.
b. Marcus said in an interview that people were offering prizes
c. The atmosphere in his era was one of prevalent "gift giving"
d. Barry, Love him ...but Barry has many detractors who would say he'd do ANYTHING to win.
c. There is a claim that after he was on campus his mother asked for a double wide..and in fact there is a double wide still sitting in Mississipi that they claim was given to them by OU
e. A really poor kid who had the world by the tail and had lots of people offering him cash chose OU.

its REASONABLE (logical) have the strong opinion that he took money from OU.

Im sure you can also give me a reasonable (logical) list of reasons you strongly believe differently.

The SEC "spreads the wealth around" by giving each member school an EQUAL SHARE of all revenues just like the NFL! SOCIALISTS!!!! Guess which two sports are the most popular? THE NFL AND THE SEC. IT MUST WORK.

It's hilarious that this would appear right after a post asking for logic. Sure dude, socialism is the common element that makes the NFL and SEC popular. Air-tight.

NO....its the fact that a rise tide lifts all boats. Strengthening the weakest makes the strongest stronger.

We are talking about the NFL that no only doesn't have equal sharing, but just went on a rather noted lockout in large part because of its revenue sharing model............

What does this bizarro socialist NFL from Dimension X have to do with how much the SEC cheats again?
