I heard on the Sports Animal on the way to work that SMU was openly campaigning to get into a BCS conference...the Big XII. So it might not necessarily be just Craig James.

It's not just Craig James. He just happens to be in the top 5 reasons to tell them to **** off.

Let them in----They just have to play all the games on the road until they triple the size of their stadium---and sell 60,000 season tickets

Exactly. Let them be 'probationary' members for the first 15 years. As probationary members, they receive no payout and have to carry all their own costs and those of the visiting teams as well.

Then we dump them at the end of the deal.

I think Deloss would smile at this deal.

I still don't guess I see why we can't bring in TCU? I know it has to do with media outlets and who's watching the rest of the sports, but football alone would carry the load. Everyone knows about TCU and as long as Patterson is there, they'll be competitive. We need a couple more solid schools. Maybe TCU and New Mexico or something? Gotta think of the travel.. Being in the Pac-14 or whatever it would be would be a really long road trip for our guys to make. (Seattle, Eugene, L.A., etc..) vs. staying up and actually taking a bus to 2-3 games. I DEFINITELY don't want SMU for the simple fact that Crybaby James is for it. There's not a more hated media guy in the world for me than him. I've talked to him a time or two. Not an impressive person. People stay away from himi if they can. He's got this vibe people hate.

TCU and SMU and Rice were all part of the old Southwest conference, along with Arkansas. They all got jettisoned (or left on their own) when the SW and the Big 8 became the Big 12. So it's not like there isn't some precedent here.

Whoever it is, it will be another completely irrelevant team to join the likes of Baylor, IA State, K State, OK State, Texas Tech, etc. The B12-3 should honestly lose their BCS status, as it is nothing more than a regional conference of third tier undesirable teams at this point (outside of OU and Texas, of course).

Three teams in the top ten? How many does the Big 10 have in the top 10?

SMU playing us every year would be another Death Penalty.

And Texas isn't one of them.

Just hate the possibility that Craig "Pony Express Gets SMU the Death Penalty" James and some of the issues he created with Leach at Texas Tech could affect another program in the Big 12. I would have thought he would have learned when to keep his mouth shut.

I am not a fan of becoming the new SWC. And I'm not too crazy about the Big 12 minus 2 or three.

If we can't get a ND or BYU I hope the conference dissolves before we start accepting teams like SMU and TCU.

I think offering TCU and not offering SMU would be kind of funny since TCU has always been their big "cross town" rival.

Those 5 teams you mentioned would beat most of the teams in the Big slow-footed conference. Illinois in particular.

SMU adds nothing. The top candidates (combination of wanted and willingness to join):

BYU
AFA
ND

and maybe

Louisville

Sure, add SMU, and sure, Houston too. But then the Big 12 has to change it's name to something like Big West Mid American Athletic Conference Weakazz League. geez.

I think the real solution is that we (Big 12) should stop feeling like the poor step child. Three teams in the top ten is not too shabby. Actually pretty good. And one of those three teams isn't even a team that has been in the top 25 for longer than just about anyone (Thank Gawd they're not! :friendly_wink:) Win a couple of NC (starting this year!) and WE are the power conference.

TCU doesn't want in. They stand to largely dominate the conference they've just gone to, and gain it's BCS game berth. Why would they wanna trade that to battle it out with OU, oSu, and the whorns every year? The answer is: they don't.

He is a huge tool. They had him pick 7 games that would impact the BCS NCG and picked Florida-FSU and didn't pick OU-fsu. I mean really, that's a top 5 match up. What a jack wagon or a huge ******'!

It's amazing he still has a career in Sport Media. The guy will never live down the Adam problem. When a Sports Announcer with a mediocre Football Player as a Son gets so involved in his son's problems with the head Coach and the head Coach loses his job and the entire Football Team is like WTF? I'm sorry....i feel for every kid that picked Texas Tech to play at. I would never recommend a kid go there after seeing how the AD and the Boosters handled that situation. It hurt TT's Football Team and it hurt the Big XII. With all of the BS going on in our Conference....I'm sure the worst thing that most of them think can happen is that Bob wins another Big XII Championship.

It's only a matter of time that all the Teams in Texas begin to implode in the Big XII if we continue to PWN them each and every year.

I don't like the idea of leaving or seeing the Big XII dissolve Season by Season but Dildos like James ought to be fired as Sports Writers when they have such an impact on a Team or a Conference. His Cheer leading for SMU is pretty awful. If SMU wants in the Big XII, they need only pick up the phone and plead their case.

SMU is a team on the rise under June Jones, but they don't belong in the Big 12.
