View Full Version : Yike! Now Ronnell has a problem with his dobber?

This morning there was a story in the Tulsa World about Ronnell. Practicing, but not yet cleared. Then, there was this cryptic quote from Bobby Jack Wright:

"Yeah, there's times he might get his dobber down a little bit not knowing, because of the uncertainty. Anybody would feel that way. He's fine. He's great. His attitude has been fabulous. He's one of the hardest workers we've got out there."

What I what to know is this: what are the short and long term effects of having one's dobber down? If it is down now, where was it before?
At certain times, I have definitely felt my dobber was up, mostly when I was younger, but it didn't stay that way too long.

This is turning into an emotional roller coaster.

I think it means when he's playing bingo, and the anxiety of not knowing if B6 will be called, he just sets his dobber down. Doesn't sound much like the Hammer, just quitting though.

Sure hope this is not serious.

The position of one's dobber is crucial. Even more crucial is the position of the team's dobber. Dobber up or dobber down can be the difference in a win or a loss. Especially when playing on the road.

So Ronnell has a house elf? I'm confused.

I just wonder if Ronnell knows that his dobber's downedness is all being caused by Texas. It's all being caused by Texas.
Childhood suffering? Texas.
The tragedy of stray animals? Texas.
Crop failure? Texas.
Romantic disappointment? Texas.

How much longer, Ronnell, are you going to allow this to go on? Isn't it really getting to be time to crush this cancer on the body politic?

It comes from an old painters tool called a dauber. When painters would get sad and stopped painting it was said that they "had their dauber down"

I just don't want the poor kid getting dinged for a downed dobber. That would be disastrous.

I emailed the story to a friend of mine. Sure enough, he has a down-dobber story. Seems that following the OU-Missouri game last year, and during the latest European banking crisis, his dobber was down to a level that required pharmaceutical intervention.

I thought that when your dobber went down it meant there was a fish on the end of the line.

Oh, nevermind that's a bobber.

Same here. But I did have a couple of scares when the effects lasted 3hr 59min.

Not to get all technical and whatnot, but it's actually 'dauber.' TW writer obviously made a mistake in spelling. :rapture:

Actually, the correct message board spelling is 'dawburr'.

There's always got to be one who can't play with the other kids.....

If you don't keep your dobber up it's possible to go down the wrong road. NTTAWWT

Is that like plunk your magic dobber frogie? I'm getting old and confused, i can't seem to find my dobber from a whole in the ground!

After lots of internet research, I've found that the dobber should be aligned with the horizon as much as possible. Its like the seasickness thing when you're on a boat.

Regardless, if Ronnell plays this season, plenty of opponents will know what it is like to be dobbed.
