If you haven't already, update your bookmarks to www.soonerfans.com, as the old link to www.soonerfans.com/forums will only give you a blank page now. Everything isn't completely finished yet, but it's done enough to reopen the board. There are still quite a few behind the scenes things left to do, including monitoring the server load with the new software so that we can optimize the server and upgrade to the proper hardware. My goal is to have the site able to handle the massive traffic during games without having to close it to unregistered users, turn off avatars, etc.

As you can see, the title bar is black in honor of Austin Box and Brandon Everage, and will remain so until the season ends.

In any event, there are a lot of new features on the board, including our cool new video highlight section over there on the right side. You can scroll back for highlights from last season, and once football begins, there will be fresh highlights there every week. We are terminating the site sponsorships. If you are on a monthly sponsorship, it will be cancelled so you aren't charged any more. If you paid for a yearly sponsorship, just let me know if you want a refund for your remaining time, and you will receive it.

Privileges will now be determined by longevity, basically. If you are in the General Population (regular users, basically) you have the ability to post photo albums, your own blog, and a number of other new features.

Also, we have a new front page section, for the first time in forever. I'll be writing regular articles for the site again, and I have invited Jay over at Sooner Spectator to contribute as well. I'll also be posting flashbacks with some of my old game reports and stuff from prior years. I'm also going to try out Twitter updates on game days, and maybe some videos for road game trips. If anyone makes a post that deserves it, we'll bump it up to a front page article. You can also bump your posts over to blog entries on your personal blog. If you're interested in submitting an article, just send it on and, if it's good enough, it'll get posted on the front page.

We also have a politics board now, which means no more politics posts on the South Oval. You will also notice that John Kerry has been replaced by Brack, and Bush 43 has been replaced by Rick Perry on the disembodied head smilie icon thingies. We've got a bot posting Sooner article links in the News Wire forum, and we have resurrected the Sports Book, just in time for football season. We'll need a volunteer or two to post and update the games for all the pretend betting action with fake money.

There are still a number of things left to do as far as the site itself, but they can be done while it's open. One of those things is mobile support, including SF.com iPhone and Android apps for quick mobile access that works directly with the site's back end software. If you see anything that is a problem or needs to be fixed, let me know. Other than that, welcome back, explore the new software and tell me what you think, and have fun. BOOMER SOONER!

The only "problem" I'm experiencing is the ad at the top that expands when the cursor goes over it, but that's easily avoided. Otherwise everything else is fine. Maybe it's because I have a 23" monitor.

One third of the whole right side is nothing but ads and about 20% of the top of the page are ads. Some are ad videos. They take forever to load and they jerk the page around while doing so. I'm sorry but I don't like this new "improved" advertisement style board.

Mama, there's one banner ad at the top of the page, same as there always was. There was always one on the side, too. There's one extra one on the side, plus the one that's part of the video highlights. It's the sidebar, not the ad, that causes that jerking as it renders. Although, I must admit, I don't really like that much, either, now that I'm seeing it in action live.

Looks like that is just on Safari. Here at my computer now on Firefox, the ads are still showing up in posts, Phil's last post has a Kohls ad in it. But it isn't causing the words to go vertical on Firefox like it was Safari. Maybe that problem is confined to Safari.

Just to be clear. After a year of mostly positive experience, in which I had decided to become an Elite Sponsor, I started the Hollis Board, I had a 46,000 spek rating based on real spek not betting over two season and 1500 posts, in the last four weeks I can see this board is a place I don't want to be or patronize. There are two other boards which I believe have at least equivalent football knowledge without the abusive environment. I am taking my business elsewhere.

Yeah, I really thought that would be better on the side, but it was just too wide, and the plugin I was using to make the side column was what was causing the jerkiness. The highlight box is better on the top.

We made the move to vBulletin last Friday. Definitely a lot of work ironing out the bugs and it can be pretty frustrating trying to troubleshoot things you can't replicate. Not to mention we only had to import a couple thousand members -- much props to Phil for managing SF's 14k.

I had the same problem with VB emails not being delivered correctly -- though they seemed to leave our server fine, they'd get rejected by the recipient's server with incorrect hostname errors. I fixed it by switching to SMTP instead of PHP mail in the ACP email options.

So when it re-directs it takes me to the message screen that says "sbodn, you do not have sufficient privileges to access or modify this screen, etc." When I immediately try to click on the Forum tab at the top I don't get anywhere.

I noodled a way around it by clicking on My Profile at the top menu, and then I can access the Forum tab (and is how I got here to post.)

Did I miss an instruction somewhere to prevent that from happening?

Yeah, that was a permissions problem - a number of usergroups didn't have permission to view the front page. I fixed that.

Ok, along the lines of the "Febreeze" add, I just had a "Verizon" add come on unexpectedly and I didn't realize my volume was still up from watching the OU Intro video earlier. Needless to say, it woke someone up in the house that was sleeping. It started automatically at the top to the left of the "highlight" thing and was loud. It was not appreciated at all. Damn that chaps my ***. I have to consciously check the volume of my computer now when posting here because I have had video ads with audio start twice now that came out of nowhere.

Can sponsors no longer turn off the ads? I use a 11" Macbook Air (running Lion) most of the time and ads are covering 3/4 of the screen. It has 1366x768 display so it is decent resolution. Can I disable the flash highlight box? It is really big.

Has anyone else noticed that the "Mark this Forum Read" function is wonky on this board? It seems to work fine elsewhere.

Can sponsors no longer turn off the ads? I use a 11" Macbook Air (running Lion) most of the time and ads are covering 3/4 of the screen. It has 1366x768 display so it is decent resolution. Can I disable the flash highlight box? It is really big.

We don't have the sponsorship program anymore, but users with more than 5000 posts should not see any ads other than the right side ad. Looks like I cancelled your PayPal, but accidentally didn't change your usergroup on the board, so you were still seeing them. They should be gone for you now.

This. Video ads that start automatically create some awkward situations when browsing at work, in class, etc.

I am also now having the auto-play video ad start up on every page. It starts with sound, which sucks. It wasn't doing this for me yesterday. It's starting on the Big XII Week 3 preview video on every page I click on. The ads vary, it isn't one specific.

I still see sidebar and top-of-screen ads with the 'Get rid of the ads' button clicked. And I'm starting to worry that the video player is causing my Internet connection to mess up, because everytime I visit another forum, another thread, or try to type in a new post, that player reloads and starts playing yet another ad.

Phil, any way to make it where youtube videos and photos aren't cut off and you have to scroll over to seem them? Even after you center it up, the edges are cut off.
