what would they be? You have $20,000 and have to purchase 100 shares of each.

Yeah, that's a pretty serious limitation there. For example, I trade round lots of AAPL almost exclusively and $20K won't get you close, even after today. But I'm not buying and holding: I'm just watching if fall on a trend and then cashing out when it goes back into the $370's.

It'll be interesting to see what happens overseas this evening.

Edit: I'm watching Susie Orman dispense her brilliant advice on CNBC to buy stock when the market is down and then explaining a dollar cost average. Gawd she sucks.

i don't really follow the market, but in the last few years Apple, Google and Exxon seem to be killing it, right?

I must agree. I was reminded of some of the techniques regarding stock purchases I was taught in finance. Some gal on Fox Business I think it was Suzie Orman, that if you didn't have certain financial moves in place like cash to risk and a good solid portfolio as well as some other things I can't recall at the moment...you probably ought to reconsider dabbling in the market right now and play it safe by putting your money in insured guaranteed returning devices rather than gamble on these stocks that at the end of the transaction really fail to return as much as what these safe places return.

I dont care for her either but her play it safe approach she talked about the other day, I thought it she made some decent points....however I wouldn't follow all of her advice. I like to gamble sometimes. :D

The scenario is to buy 100 shares of 5 stocks with $20,000 to spend. Sorry, you aren't in Congress and can't buy Apple just because you want it even if you can't afford it.

So far, I'm looking at Johnson & Johnson, Transcanada, Deere & Company, and Chesapeake which puts me right at $20000 but one stock short.

Edit: I'm trying to learn about the market so taking a class and these are the parameters I was given for my first assignment.

I hope Phil gets the Stock Trader going again after the upgrade. I liked playing around with it.

COH - Coach

I think folks are gonna invest in well made Purses that aren't priced so high they aren't affordable and with the Murse well on it's way to replacing the backpack....I think they might be a good bet even though it took nearly a $5 hit today. :D

I'm not giving stock tips to strangers.

However, some of the stocks I own have been mentioned.
