The day A&M nearly killed the Rice band:
http://www.ricefootball.net/mob73ut.jpg
http://mob.rice.edu/history/scripts/files/1973/wherehaslittledoggone73.jpg

Field Action:

Band lines up on north end of field. Called to attention.
Announcer:

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the 1973 Marching Owl Band, or MOB – [pause] the only thing funnier than a good Aggie Joke. The MOB is directed by Mr. Bert Roth, with twirlers Janet Breston, Suzan, McCorkle, Liz Moy and Karen Blackwell. And, in his last appearance with the MOB today, the person responsible for pulling together the halftime shows this year, Drum Major Bob Hord.
Music:

Fanfare
Announcer:

Today the MOB salutes Texas A&M and the Aggie band. So to begin, the band will warm up with a little old-fashioned military marching. [in German accent] You will enjoy!
Field Action:

Band goosesteps out to old Germanesque march. Stops. Marches into chicken leg.
Announcer:

Before we go any further into our halftime festivities, the MOB takes time to pay tribute to Mr. Marvin Zindler. [pause] Yes, you heard correctly – the MOB has formed a large chicken thigh, and Marvin Zindler (the most hated man in Lagrange) will twirl to that famous greeting "Hello, Dolly."
Music:

"Hello, Dolly"
Field Action:

Band marches into boot to cadence.
Announcer:

The MOB has formed a famous Senior Boot, the greatest thing to happen to Aggieland since the manure spreader. [pause] Aggie freshmen will agree that at the base of every Senior Boot is a big heel.
Music:

"Get It On"
Field Action:

Marches into fire hydrant to cadence.
Announcer:

The MOB now salutes Reveille, the mascot of the Aggies. This is a little dog with a big responsibility. But even Reveille likes to make that pause that refreshes. [pause] So the MOB has formed a fire hydrant and plays "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"
Music:

"Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"
Field Action:

Band marches into giant 'T'.
Announcer:

The MOB now salutes the Marching Band from Aggieland by forming their famous marching T. [pause] Watch now as the MOB has it their way.
Field Action:

Band plays bugle call into to the Aggie War Hymn and transitions into
Music:

"Little Wooden Soldier" March.
Announcer:

There you have it, fans, the band that never sounds retreat. Thank you and goodbye.
Field Action:

Band runs off while trumpets blow "Retreat".

You can read the entire story here. (http://ricefootball.net/mobday.htm)

In a nutshell, Aggie was highly offended of Rice's halftime show (even though they regularly make fun of everyone else, they absolutely cannot and will not take an anti-Aggie joke). What made matters worse was that Rice actually beat A&M, so they were especially offended and pizzed off. The band hid from the angry Aggies, and the band eventually had to be smuggled away in food trucks or something. I've heard that what really set them off was the twirler with the empty dog leash. Apparently one of the Reveilles had just died.

I couldn't find the video to this :(

There was a great ESPN interview I think before or during the 2004 game. They were asking different Aggy students what their favorite tradition was.

There was a group of 2 guys and 4 or 5 pretty good looking girls.

ESPN: "So, what's your favorite A&M tradition?"

Aggy Guy: "Muggin' down. That's where you make out wit' yo' date!" At this point, the Aggy Guy put his arm around the other Aggy Guy and they smile at each other while all the girls look sad.

An actual newspaper article

Yea "normal" students are into kinkier ****

A hole different world
Underneath the noses of unsuspecting students, anonymous sex is occurring in buildings across campus.
By Richard Creecy

Published: Tuesday, December 8, 2009
Updated: Monday, March 1, 2010 16:03

Nicholas Badger
Most Aggies pride themselves on the aesthetic appeal of campus. Both antiquated and modernly designed buildings are surrounded by large open cobblestone walkways and courtyards dotted with old growth trees, at least for now. But this lovely campus has a dark side some will find hard to swallow. Often as most students go about their business, illicit and anonymous sex occurs publicly in the very buildings we call home.
A quick search through the personals section of Craigslist might reveal more of this world than readers care to know. The use of study rooms in Evans for sex is better known, but these activities spillover into every corner of the University. To truly realize the extent of what goes on behind closed doors, visit the men's bathroom on the second floor of the Academic Building.
A casual observer might never notice the walls separating the bathroom stalls across campus are made of incredibly hard material, largely stainless steel or some form of faux marble. But a few weeks ago, the walls of the aforementioned bathroom were replaced with thick plastic. In a shorter period of time a large 8" hole along with several smaller peep-holes have been cut and melted into the walls. As early as the eighties, anonymous public sex has been happening on campus, and a lot of it. Even older generations of Aggies know about the reports and rumors about various places on campus being used for public anonymous sex.
During an interview with a professor who wished to remain anonymous, the seriousness of these sexual exploits became obvious. The professor told a harrowing tales about one night in the late 80s, when he and his three young children were in the Academic building and went to use the restroom. Upon entering in the restroom he encountered several males openly performing various sex acts. Needless to say he was mortified. In fact, the older classroom doors that had grates in them making it very easy for one to bend wide enough to reach through and unlock the door for larger "engagements." Decades later, the glory hole carved into the second floor of the bathroom of the same building tells the same story.
Efforts to curb public cuckolding on campus seem to have been, at best, modestly successful. Online posts and personals provide countless chances for a homosexual encounter, and the details of even browsing these messages are too graphic to repeat or even believe. But since these sexual opportunities seem to attract largely the gay community, the situation begs the question: why Texas A&M? Our school is ranked the 8th most conservative school in America by the Princeton Review, and seems like an improbable location. To answer this question, I interviewed a poster of a similar craigslist.org advertisement.
The poster spoke only on the condition of anonymity, and so will be referred to as Mike. Mike is 26 years old and a life long resident of Bryan and he does not, nor ever did, attend any higher education. Mike responded to the question of why Texas A&M campus with several explanations. The main point was that College Station is the perfect distance between Dallas, Austin and Houston. As for the location, it would not seem odd to anyone to see people of all ages walking around campus all hours of the night.
Also, perhaps due to the aforementioned conservative tendency of the towns, there seems to be a larger number of homosexuals in the area than the general population realizes. Most have not come out yet and many have no intention of doing so. Mike added there is no fear that they will be caught, and because of that he is able to "meet up with" up to 15 new partners a semester. I concluded by asking Mike why this anonymous sex had to be on campus. Certainly there were more safe and sanitary places for men to enjoy each other's company than a bathroom. Mike told me that there was more thrill in using public facilities and that he has a "good thing going" with no intention of ever stopping.
There will always be people like Mike who take advantage of an open door policy, a larger question is where are the University Police who patrol campus 24 hours a day? Public sex has occurred long enough at A&M, and instead of simply fixing vandalized facilities, our fees and tuition should go towards stopping it. The University needs to put back those fancy non-permeable walls, and actually make their security employees do their job to protect the students, faculty, and staff from having to be subjected to these seedy and illegal sex acts.

This just reeks of bad idea.

The SEC will have another mouth to feed without having a new TV deal to pay em. Texas A&M will likely get sued by the Big 12 for breach of contract if all of the talk of the SEC trying to avoid a lawsuit is true... and will be subject to not getting their Big 12 revenue share by leaving the conference with little notice.

Uggggh. Just... leave well enough alone, A&M. I understand that you are in desperate need of attention when the last time you've won the conference was the 90s (which coincidentally was the last time you won a bowl game that wasn't named after Galleryfurniture.com), but you've gotten that and all the embarrassment that comes along with it. It depends on the terms of the contract. USUALLY, there are monetary penalties for a breach of contract. When this happens, the party who breached just pays a hefty fine. If a&m proceeds to leave the big 12 and apply for membership, they will not get sued. It's a loophole nonetheless.

What I've read from lurking on texags occasionally (they are quite dillusional and funny and have no idea that they haven't won a conference championship or bowl... other than galleryfuniture.com of course... since the 90s in football)

...basically, the academic side was putting pressure on the athletic side to pay off something that the university had handled earlier, like stadium expansion or some other facility or something. In a nutshell, when state funding is dwindling, universities depend more and more for athletics to milk the donors and bring in revenue.

It's worth repeating: The Aggies haven't won a conference crown in football since 1998 (and you know they're not going to the SEC for, say, womens basketball). They have won three bowls in the 90s and aughts, and they were as follows: 1990 Holiday Bowl, 1995 Alamo Bowl, and 2001 galleryfurniture.com bowl. They are perennial losers of games that matter. May they continue to crash and burn wherever they land for all the crap they've put the minor Big 12 schools through the past few months.

It's amazing what a non-championship, non-bowl-winning 9-win football season will do for their ego... or was it the womens basketball title that gave them their little uppity attitude? :rcmad:

The Ole Miss pic is legendary.

At Ole Miss' campus back in 2009 (might be some curse words in the background):
ma584yDaRm8

In a nutshell, Ole Miss asked their band to modify a song that had fans chanting (on their own, kind of like our fans on their own yelling "Sooners" at the end of the nat'l anthem) "The South Will Rise Again." So, the KKK came on campus to protest... probably good enough reason for every Rebel to never ever want to be associated with that phrase ever again :(

Want another stat to add on to that? A&M won their only NC in 1939. Since that year, they have finished in the top 5 of either poll in only one other year, that being 1956.
