Did everyone else know that the first Taco Mayo was in Norman?

I knew the #2 store was in Chickasha but didn't know that Taco Mayo started in Norman until yesterday.

I hit a TM about once a year or so. Every time I go "wtf did I do that for?" I don't think I've ever eaten at one while sober.

I loved TM when I was in college. I had about 15 minutes to run from Price to the Union, buy a couple burritos, and get back one semester. I had about 5 straight hours of classes during lunchtime and they were the only place that could get me food fast enough that I wasn't tardy.

I don't think I've had Mayo since I was in school....Think i remember usually getting one of the grilled steak burritos. I guess they aren't at OU any more though.

Growing up our fast food choices were McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Golden Fried Chicken or Taco Mayo. I grew up eating there and I still like it today. I don't like it as much as I like Taco Bueno but I like it better than Taco Bell.

It had nutrients, and was edible. It was food.

So you're saying it's an acquired taste. Like bad scotch.

All of the messican FF joints have edible food. I guess at least TM does have some things that taste different. At Taco Bell, your best bet is to order what's cheapest, because everything on their menu tastes exactly the same.

Yup, Mayo #1 is the one accross the street from Norman High. Think I learned that when they decided to open one up in Cate

Yeah, I remember hitting Mayo pretty often in my college days back in the mid-80s. As I recall, you could get two soft tacos and a medium Coke for about a dollar and a half. I think the Coke had more nutritional value than the tacos.

One night, some friends had an eating contest with the tortilla chili pie things they had at Cate. One guy managed to eat 4. That was a disgusting night.

Bueno sucks. I just had some potato locos and a side of queso from Mayo. Needed the carbs before my workout..

I love that place

at 2 o'clock in the morning, nothing hit the spot after penny beer at infinity better than 50 cent tacos at mayo on macarthur.

I remember getting one of those 12 packs of Tacos and I was eating one that had a lot of greasy taco meat in it and it dripped on my jeans. After washing the jeans the grease acted like battery acid on cotton jeans and burnt a hole in them. I couldnt believe it and quit eating there.

Before the polio vaccine was developed, middle class kids suffered a higher rate of polio than did lower class kids.... the immunity developed living in lower class conditions explained this.

When I was in grad school I got my second wind to study around 10 o'clock each night, which sometimes led to a midnight run to Mayo for 3-for-a-dollar tacos. What didn't kill me made me stronger.

Ohhh I knew the resident expert on all things Messican would chime in. ;)

Mayo is the worst of the Tacos.

Taco Bueno>Taco Cabana>Taco Bell>Taco Mayo

AKA El Paso Gasso.

I actually liked it. I'd buy 6 tacos and give one to my cat Bosworth. She would eat the whole damned thing.

Norman High Taco Mayo, remember it well.

They used to have amazing kick *** nachos loaded with sliced jap peppers. Sometime around 1990 or so they went generic, football stadium nachos. No reason to go there now.

In all the years I lived in Normal I never went there once. There's a few other places I admit I wished I hadn't gone into.

Once a year, and with regrets.

I used to have a tradition of eating LJS and a huge bottle of Mountain Dew every New Year's Day as a hangover cure. I finally decided it wasn't working and stopped.

Don't have Taco Mayo or Taco Bueno out here. Don't know that I miss Taco Mayo that much, but Taco Bueno has a few decent things.

I disagree on all points, but especially the last one.

You roll into a Taco Cabana drive-thru at 4am after drinking all night and I promise you that you've never had anything better in all your life. At least until you sober up a few hours later.

Taco Tote and Chico's Tacos are better than all the above, unfortunately you have to go to El Paso.

Taco Cabana is runner-up.

I'm hoping I never have to go to El Paso again. I'm glad we beat Stanford but I'm glad if we never go there again.

I think it's pretty cool that Sonic, Braums, and Taco Mayo all started in Oklahoma. Of course this could relate to our obesity of a state

Cabana is from my hometown, and tastes infinitely better there for some reason. Much like Whataburger and Corpus Christie.
