May all the others hurt in the Attack on our Troops heal quickly and return to good health.

Family and friends gathered Saturday to honor a fallen National Guard soldier from Lowell, Ind.

Spc. Augustus Vicari, 22, was killed July 29 by an explosive device that went off while he was on patrol in Janak Kheyl, Afghanistan.

Vicari was part of the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He was stationed in Afghanistan, but based in Tulsa, Okla. with the Oklahoma National Guard.

Lt. Jered W. Ewy 33, also fell in the explosion. Two other Oklahoma sodliders and a Mississippi Air National Guardsman were also injured and are currently hospitalized.

"Both 2nd Lt. Ewy and Spc. Vicari were brave and committed individuals whose sacrifices for both the American and Afghan people will not be forgotten," said Lt. Col. Chuck Booze, commander of the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry, in a statement. "While we mourn the loss of these two heroes, this loss hardens our resolve to bring peace and security to the people of the Paktya province."

Funeral services for Vicari will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 11000 W. 133rd Ave. in Cedar Lake, Ind.
