Does anyone know how often the Vegans have correctly predicted the NC? When was the last time they picked correctly? Just curious.

the last time that i know for sure was the LA Lakers in the 2009-10 season.

as far as college football, my guess would be 2004 USC

They got Florida in 2008 and Alabama in 2009.

And if memory serves correctly, they had auburn last year.

Okay they didn't have Auburn as the favorites last year, it was Florida.

Georgia was the favorite in 2008.

Bama was the favorite in 2010

He'll the odds I had were from 4 days ago. Looking at them today Alabama is 4:1 and OU is 5:1.

Must be some heavy beating going on already on the future odds.

And SOA... Vegas insider college football future odds. Google it. I would post the link but I'm lazy since I'm on a mobile.

exactly, many think that lines stay the same. Betting has almost everything to do with it.

Go to bookie at hideout. Then look on the third or fourth page. Thread titled 2010 bcs title odds or something like that. I just copy what Vegas insider provides when doing the bookie event.

That's so they don't go broke... And to generate interest in other bets

The initial lines are usual who Vegas favors, not the last ones since they are trying to make money.

The future odds in Vegas come out well before the AP preseason rankings.

JLEW1818

that's probably true. I'm getting preaseaon #1 mixed up with Vegas odds. What was Florida in 2009?

OU_Sooners75
7/31/2011, 08:36 PM
Preseason ranking they were #1.

First odds bama was the favorite. I'm sure Florida moved to the favorites leading to the beginning of the season though thanks to the rankings.

Right now ou is right behind Bama. If ou is ranked #1 the odds will switch to ou being the favorites in Vegas odds.

Wonder what our odds were in 2000? How awesome would that have been to have a $100 bet down pre-season and get paid while enjoying OU's glorious win?

It was something close to 35:1 if memory serves correctly. But that is not a positive. OU did end up start #19 or 20.

they establish the odds where they think the most bets will be generated.

That's actually not correct at all. They establish the odds where they think the ratio of odds to money will be equally spread so that they win no matter what happens. As applied to the current case, they could generate far more bets by offering OU at 10:1, or 20:1, or 50:1, or 100:1, etc etc etc. But then too many people bet on OU and the payout is too rich if it happens, so they're exposed to too much risk. So they adjust the odds so that 1) the betting public spreads out their money, and 2) if OU does win, the payout doesn't hit them any more than if anybody else wins.

No one had Florida #1 preseason '08.

They were coming off a 4 loss season and no one had them at No 1, in Vegas or pre-season polls.

I believe Fl was 5th AP before 2008.

USC was the odds on favorite preseason 2008 @ 3/1
