What's to make one optimistic that they will do the "right" thing the second....?

nobody ever said the independents were smart....
they simply vote their pocketbooks...
if the economy is bad....they vote for change....
if the economy is still bad next year...obama is gone...

Nope. The Tea Party choked. Obama invokes the 14th Amendment and saves the economy. Game over.

Raising the debt limit won't save the economy....it might keep it from going into a second tail spin (looks possible either case)...but it ain't gonna save it...

We are getting exactly what we wanted...we wanted the good old boy network tossed out...and it will be painful to make that happen....

Now it comes down to nut cutting time...will the good old boy network realize that radical change is in the wind or do they continue to try to do business as usual?

You obviously have not been paying attention to economic indicators lately....

Oh wait.. BREAKING NEWS!!

1st quarter GDP revised downward to .4% from 1.9%. They are saying 1.3% growth in the 2nd quarter... Expect that to be downgraded at some point..

A new Obama recession might already be here...

But you say he is saving it... :O

i think what spis was trying to say is ....obama raising the debt ceiling would save the financial markets...
however....if he does it by invoking the 14th amendment...US debt would likely be downgraded immediately so i'm not sure the markets wouldn't tank anyway...
i guess tanking would be better than collapsing...

Actually what I'm saying is the Tea Party are destroying the Republicans reputation as fiscally sound. Letting the economy blow up by refusing to raise the debt ceiling when the crisis is at our doorstep is suicide. The Tea Party/Republicans are now seen and crazy and childish.

so how does obama look then?
letting the "economy blow up" by raising the debt ceiling and irresponsibly continuing down the same road to complete collapse.....
i guess one must be paying attention to understand this ....

also...as an aside..if you've been paying attention.....the republican reputation of fiscal soundness.....is a myth...

Yeah, it is real stupid to pay attention to how much money our government spends versus what it takes in and then decides the answer to not having enough is to take in more . . . and from where does it get more?

Great GDP growth which fueled massive increases in revenue...

Phil,

it is really sad that through all of this, Obama has not submitted a plan and neither has the Senate. Oh, they say they have a plan, but nothing is ever brought up for a vote, Harry could call a vote at any time on his plan.

I really think Obama doesn't know what to do. He has froze.

Pushing the debt limit out without real spending cuts, or a deal on a balanced budget ammendment IS NOT FISCALY SOUND!
