I generally prefer Pie, but a nice chocolate cake with a good cup of coffee is hard to beat.

Which do you prefer?

pie for me. apple. but really cobbler should be in the discussion as well. blackberry cobbler can be a desert or breakfast as well.

cobble seems to fall under "pie"... sorta...

fair enough, then definitely put me in the pie category. as I said bberry cobbler is my fav. I'm sad because of the drought we had no blackberries to speak of this year. they were like blackberry raisins.

Cake. Pie is for people that want to ingest fruit coated in sugar syrup. Uhh, guys, fruit is already almost 100% sugar. Morans.

Yep, this! Even though I loves me some good cake, pie is a real treat. (Of course now that I am diabetic it is rare that I get a chance to try either one, and then just in small portions.)

I ain't diabetic, but momma makes all her pies/cakes with Splenda and the **** is good.

My favorite - she makes a strawberry/rhubarb pie that is killer. Her blackberry pie is also great.

Prezactly! I eat pie (or dessert, period) about three times a year. When I do, I tend towards pecan pie; which, as you know is essentially sugar syrup custard with nuts. Eat it, love it, feel vaguely sick for an hour afterward, wait another 3-4 months to do it again. Wonderful.

Plus, every dessert is only as good as its pairing with ice cream. Cake with ice cream > pie with ice cream.

if pie = cobbler then I think you're wrong. Warm peach/blackberry cobbler with ice cream on the top is the bestes.

Ah the frisson of youth! Non, non, mon frere, one can not do that after dinner and expect a mellow evening. I counter suggest cognac.

Or large wine glasses filled about halfway up with room temp bourbon.

Yeah, but cobbler is much more cakey. Isn't it based on biscuit dough?

Not to brag, but I make a mean Kahlua chocolate chip pecan pie, with an amazing homemade crust my Mom taught me how to make. (The secret to a perfect crust is vodka.)

But then again, my Guinness/sour cream chocolate cake is nothing to sneeze at either.

You can find the recipe online: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/recipe-nigella-lawsons-chocolate-guinness-cake-079475

This is awesome to do on St. Patrick's Day as cupcakes. You can swirl a little shamrock in the cream cheese frosting like they do on the head of a delicious frosty Guinness.

Pie. Specifically, cherry, lemon meringue, rhubarb, peach.
But cake sits in second place. And Black Forest cake has the best of both worlds.

Cake or Pie?

I'll answer this question the way I always do: Cookies.

However, for those of you who like pecan pie (myself included - a close second to cookies), this recipe for Brown Sugar Pecan Pie (w/out corn syrup) is the bomb:

Brown Sugar Pecan Pie

This pie is actually better the second day. Don’t refrigerate it — store it covered on the counter.

Makes one nine-inch pie

Pie crust for a one-crust pie, unbaked
1-1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup milk
3 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups pecans*

Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll out crust and fit into pan.

Combine sugar and flour in a large bowl and mix well. Add melted butter, milk, eggs and vanilla; mix well. Add pecans. Pour batter into pie shell.

Transfer pan to preheated oven. Bake 15 minutes at 400°, then reduce heat to 350°F and bake for 20-25 minutes longer, until firm.

Chopped and whole pecans*I chopped up about half the pecans in one test, and that was too much bitty stuff. If you like the idea of some chopped, some whole, I’d chop about a half-cup.

An added bonus to making this pie is that the Rolling Stones song is in your head the entire time you're getting the ingredients together - including the kick-@$$ sax solo.........

Blackberry Cobbler

Cherry Pie

Devil'sfood Cake

Cobbler is pie-like but it's cobbler, not pie. A bagel is donut-like but it's a bagel, not a donut.

I love to bake. I do a little bit of it all, but after a lot of supper parties, I have to say, it seems like the pies are a bigger hit than the cakes. Chocolate cream pie and coconut cream pie always have them fighting over the last piece. Pina Coloda cake is worth being invited over for, however. ;)

If I have fresh berries, I do a cobbler. When we lived in Rhode Island we could get blackberries that were so big they looked fake, omg, the best cobblers EVAH!!!

The best thing about living next to me--my love of baking does not sit well on my beehind. So, I give most of it away. I figure it makes up for all those hours I blare my stereo WAY too loud. :D
