Oklahoma City native and one-time star quarterback at Douglass High School Andy Dement passed away on July 18, he was 76. In 1954, Dement almost became the first African-American to play football at OU when he approached Coach Bud Wilkinson about the possibility (see story link below). But the circumstances dictated otherwise and Prentice Gautt eventually became the first black player at OU.

Mr. Dement was a true gentleman and always kept OU close to his heart. Rest in peace.
