Sams statue in progress

During my 7am run around campus this morning I noticed a crew was laying the cement foundation for his statue. It's directly south of Jason Whites. I was always curious where they would put it.... just catching everyone up.

What artist did the work I wonder? I hope he doesn't have a big out of proportion Billy Sims head.

Sam's statue reminds me of when Starting Line Up put out their Heisman figure line and the Steve Owens figure was clearly Steve Garvey's head on a football player body.

Man that statue doesn't look like him, plus it looks like they put him in a wifebeater and a 1930s uniform. Where's the Sam fro?

Maybe it looks more impressive in person.

The pads are too flat, theres no true likeness in the definition of the face, and the pads are flat.

The only thing that I can think is they sold all of the tickets for the unveiling and then the sculptor had to work very quickly to get a statue. It looks very generic and poorly done.

It is a Heisman statue, so I can't complain too much. Seems that they could take some extra time to work on it though. The athletic department has to have received some letters aboutt he statue.

I think they may all be by different sculptors. I hesitate to call them artists as I don't think any of them are that great. JMO

I am with the crowd who are disappointed in Sam's statue. It does kind of look like Lee Majors.
