Me and my friend were having a debate on how hard it would be to leave OU early if you were Landry or Sam. We both grew up loving the Sooners. Therefore, we both dreamed of being the starting QB for Barry Switzer or whoever was the coach. I remember as a 6 year old, practicing running the option and making my pitches into a reclyner. I was the next great one at OU!

The question we finally came up with was would you rather have 20 mill, or be the starting QB on a NC OU team.

You have to take one or the other. The other is never going to come.

I'd take the title at OU that would have lasting memories. Money comes and goes...

Take the $20 mil.

Fame is also fleeting and it is hard to eat an NC ring.

Then give a few million to OU so they can win several NCs.

Lasting memories will not put cars in my garage, or boats in my pier. I'd take the money.

as long as he never molests a kid, an NC winning OU qb will never be poor.

Josh Heupel got the ring and the money and both came from OU.

Plus, coaching has a lot more longevity to it than the average three years in the NFL for players.

Bradford got to answer that question the way most of us would like to. He did both. He left the money on the table in '09 and took it in '10. I would like to do both, but mostly I would like to play college football at the University of Oklahoma for as long as the rules would allow (which for me was never).

My position is that nothing is guaranteed. If you have a chance to play another year at QB in college football (especially OU) and your team has a chance to win the title if you play, then you play. This is legendary lifetime stuff. The money will be there the next year if that is meant to be. If injury or your performance costs you a ton of money then that is what happens.

Rite-on, you can work 40 yrs as a coach & make almost as much as Sam's guaranteed money.

well, probably not.

Hmmm...

Josh Heupel will one day be Bob Stoops.

Bob Stoops makes $4 mil per year now.

Sam's guaranteed money is $50 million.

$50 million/$4 million = 12.5 years of Stoops level salary to get Sammie guaranteed money.

I could see that happening, especially if we factor in inflation.

I would take the title. Crazy, I guess. You only get these experiences once in your life. Money will come with time though.

Sorry, gotta take the 19 mill. Although I guess I could sell the championship ring after I win it. Considering I am no longer under the NCAA jurisdiction..........

I would take the title. There is a purity to CFB, even with the corruption, that Pro football will never have. Listen to the Malcolm Kelly rap after the Big XXII whatever year that was..."OU Boys, they're my brothers..." . That just says it all to me. These guys put their guts into this team, for no real pay, just for each other and for the fans and to be rewarded like that, especially at a school like OU, in a state like Oklahoma, where you will be known and recognized for the rest of your life, where you will be loved, handshaked, hugged, baby-kissed, begged for autographs, and well-wished, no matter what path you take--you don't get that kind of devotion in the pros, where it's a business, a paid service, ya know?

There's lots of ways to earn a good living--there's not many ways to earn that kind of blind love and devotion. Not a bad way to walk thru life.

So I'll take a ring--size 5 and 1/2, please. :D
