Worked from 9 to 6. Working in the moving business for a couple of days to earn some cash. Ankles are sore but nothing else, I had to carry most of everything today but I didn't have to pay for breakfast or lunch so that was a bonus. :D

How old are you?

When I was 14, I was hauling hay as well, but was getting 15 cents a bail! That was 1990.

15 CENTS!! Hell when i did it in the 80's i only made 8-9 cents depending on the farm. Sure made me buff as hell though!

On Edit: OP, good job for working and not sitting on your as$ playing vid games all day.

As best that I can remember, my dad paid the crews I ran 2 cents per bale in the 70s. But, we had everything set up for speed with a fleet of trucks, several loaders and chain elevators in the barn. One crew of 3 guys should be able to move at least 500 bales (5 trips - 2 morning, 3 afternoon) in a day. That was $100/day, which wasn't bad pay back in the 70s even with the backbreaking labor.

Chuck Bao

And oh good grief! It is a "bale" of hay, not "bail", though I could possibly understand the confusion for some of you. ;)

Liar. Nobody has hauled hay for a "nickle a bail" since before you were born. If you ever spent one second in a hayfield you would know it' "bale" and you would know the word "nickle" means "quatah."

Geez, you'd think we were sitting in a bar listening to all the ****ing liars or something.

15 today. Good day. Good way to make some money. Still not sore, had an ankle brace on today cause I did something to my ankle but not a thing hurts otherwise.

You are right, Dean. I was just re-figuring my numbers and I was off a decimal place. It had to have been 20 cents a bale, obviously.

Actually, since you're under 20 and in your first 90 days of employment, federal minimum wage is $4.25. 19 U.S.C. § 206(g). Since Alabama doesn't have a minimum wage, the federal minimum controls.

Be damn proud and happy for it. I remember my first $1. It was after I collected a couple of my paper route customers and I realized I had profited a buck. A whole buck. It was the first whole dollar I ever held in my hand that was mine. I bought a cheeseburger, fries, and a coke at Sandy's drive in and had 3 cents to spare for some bubblegum at the Circle K.

Hard work will get you where you wanna be.

But seriously, it was good. I got a nice workout from carrying stuff, wasn't too sore and didn't get a hernia.

or wastin time on a message board ???

Ahem...some of us be retired or taking a break after a whole hell of a lot of hardworking years and because we can afford to do it.

SoonerofAlabama, my first paying job was helping the local feed store owner deliver truck loads of cow feed to the big ranchers in the county. The bags of feed were pretty heavy for a 13-14 year old. But, I worked my butt off for the old feed store owner because he was such a good man and reminded me of my grandfather. I wouldn't let him do anything that I could do instead.

It was a great experience and helped build character and I don't remember what I was paid but it wasn't much.
