mgsooner
7/9/2011, 04:11 PM
Yeah. Getting someone out to fix it when A)it's Saturday, and B)it's a million degrees outside is easier said than done. Luckily I think we MIGHT have someone on the hook. We'll see.

JDMT

It's probably froze up. He'll add a few oz's and be on his way with 200.00 bucks.

I took a peek but didn't see any ice. However I'm pretty freaking far from an expert. We've got an 8 month old at home so I pretty much don't care, it just needs to get fixed ASAP

Sad to say I had the wife run to QT and purchase some Coors Light. It's just about the only 3.2% beer that I can drink without wanting to hurl.

Some day I won't have to go to the liquor store a day in advance so my beverages will be properly chilled when I get around to enjoying them. Some day.

Are you getting any air flow from your registers? Is the fan on the outside unit running? If it is how hot is the air it's moving?

I guess I'm the only one on here who uses his fridge to cool his beer. I've never left my liquor store beer on the counter and let my AC cool it for me.

do you not have an ice chest? buy some liquor store beer, got get some ice, put it in an ice chest and then drink. It's really not that hard.
sucks about your AC though. had that happen to us a few years back. Same as you on a Saturday. they got out Sunday and $800.00 dollars later we had cool air. Trust me the beer in the ice chest will help.

ps. don't listen to anything JDMT says. his brain is riddled with the beetus. he knows not what he says.

Check your breaker.

If the air is flowing but the fan isnt, it is not a breaker tripped! I would guess without looking at it, that it is most likely a fan motor. But could be a number of other things too.

Should actually ask other questions. Is the compressor running in the outside unit? If the Compressor is not running then the breaker would be a good starting point.

But if it is running and the fan is not, then no, the breaker would not be tripped.

If neither the fan or compressor is running, and it is not the breaker (which would actually be a quick connect breaker outside by the unit), then there are numerous possible problems.

1. Bad contactor on the outside unit.
2. Bad Capacitor.
3. High Pressure Switch has shut down the unit because the fan wasnt running when the compressor was. If this is what is happening, then there is a manual reset on the unit where the wires come out of the unit.

So if the compressor and fan is not running and the breaker was not tripped, #3 above is likely what happened...capacitors do go bad, but that is actually pretty rare.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about...but okay...if it is a contactor, it is not at the breaker, it is on the outside unit itself. :)
