Would you lie for your kid to keep him out of trouble?

Partial Qualifier
7/6/2011, 11:56 AM
Tough question.

I mean the obvious answer is 'no', and for me that would apply to 99.9% of all "trouble" situations -- but in a situation where he might be put to death if I don't lie? Sheesh.

I just pray I'm never faced with that situation

I would most likely lie to save their lives, but I'd think long and hard about it if they'd killed my grandchild.

for me it depends on the circumstances - if its something minor - then possibly

if its something serious or felonious - nope

pft, my kids and I are all the time stretching the truth to keep them outta trouble with their mom.

Now legal trouble would be different but probably depended on the severity

I think when you say Kid....you include "Your +20 year old Kid who didn't tell you where your Grandchild was for 30 Days, Lied to the Police and said you raped her when she was a Child".

In that case....I highly doubt it.

In the case of my 8 year old Son.....

No. I think it's important to not teach kids to lie.

We shouldn't be bad examples.

Most of the time no. I think life can teach valuable lessons. If it's something where the punishment doesn't fit the crime and the kid, is well, still a kid (say under 16), then I might lie to keep him/her out of an uncalled for punishment

If it's my kids word against a mexicans, then yes....everytime.

Other than that, no.

No one has any compunction about lying to their kids (i.e., telling them there's any justice left in the world!!), so why not lie for them, huh?

I would like to say no, but I get the feeling that I would strangle a fugger with my bare hands for my kids...so, probably.

Well if it was my kid committing a crime against an illegal then I would feel compelled to lie for him as a public service.

Now if it was against an American citizen then heaven forbid.

Here is a tip to stay out of prison: try your hardest not to be black, or hispanic.

Mexicans can produce more witnesses than anybody that their little gangster criminal killer was in a church praying and completely innocent of any crime.

Fact: Criminal killers should be treated like he/sheroes. Someone should kill them.

My kid is better behaved than I am, so a more pertinent question might be "would she lie for me"?

I used to be a firm believer in the NO camp, my Dad solidified this for me. A few years back, my brother was busy being pretty worthless- drinking every night- living at home (prolly why he was drinking every night). One night while driving home drunk, he hit a landscaping trailer that was parked on their street. (Still not sure what it was doing there at 2AM, but whatevs) My dad heard the noise from their bedroom and went down and eventually took the heat for the mishap, saying that he was driving my brother home and was tired blah blah blah. Well, suffice it to say, my brother should have taken the fall for it, he didn't hit rock bottom for almost another year til he dried up and started to slowly get his **** together. My dad should never have done that. The best thing for him would have been to deal with the repercussions then. Instead, he lost another year and got away with something that he shouldn't have.

Doesn't apply in this case. My brother is my half brother, I am sure that my step mom had a BIG hand in making sure that her "baby" didn't get in trouble.
Frankly, I was surprised that my Dad did it. He can be be a pretty big wuss on being tough these days, I guess.

First, I have some preliminary questions: Why are we asking this question? Is it to compare our children to someone else? Is this person a grandfather? A veteran?

owns a message board?
