Is it acceptable for someone to have a baby shower for their second kid if it's the same sex as the first?

From my experience, baby showers were thrown by friends. It's not like my wife went out and asked for someone to throw us a shower. So, I don't think there's an issue if someone is throwing a shower for you.

Is it acceptable for someone getting married for the second time to have a formal wedding with gift registries?

It's acceptable...some parents choose not to. You do have a choice whether to gift or not gift.

I thought women had showers for everything anyway. You can't keep hoards of women away from anything "baby" (except jk's penis).

truth. :D

Yeah I know of at least a few different families who had baby showers thrown for them, even though it was not their first of either gender.

I think it's more appropriate to have the girls do a lunch or to have a "sprinkles" which is a watered down baby shower.

But like someone said above- if people want to throw you a shower, there's no harm in letting them.

It is unacceptable for to have an opinion, or otherwise have anything to do with it, Suzy.

Our first kid was a girl and my sister threw the short but my wife chose the venue, the caterer, the menu and picked up the tab. She had pretty much already purchased everything we needed for our kid and was content with not receiving gifts, but some folks insisted on bringing stuff.

Our second kid was a boy, my sister insisted on a second shower, my wife booked a restaurant and on the invitation specifically said "no gifts". We already had a crib, swing and all the essentials.

My wife has been invited to baby showers for a woman with four kids...boys and girls. I think it's absurd.

I'm pretty sure people threw showers for both of our girls. They are just two years apart.

If someone had done that to begin with, we wouldn't be in the mess of this current thread.

I think it's nice that people want to celebrate the new baby.

Well, you can always use diapers, wipes, lotions, etc. And most folks I know give their onesies to Goodwill or something instead of keeping in a box for years until the next child. What if your last child was born in summer but this one is due in December - do you have adequate winter clothes? A shower gift isn't usually a high dollar stroller or car seat but instead smaller things from friends who just want to celebrate with you.
