View Full Version : Why Celebrate the 4th?

I am finding it harder and harder to celebrate a nation whose government I increasingly view with contempt and disdain. The American people have been oppressed by this government for a very very long time. You all know that I have very very strong feelings on when that oppression started, but I will save that argument for another time and place. Hell, I am to the point now that I take issue with the Pledge of Allegiance (especially the indivisible part) which is little more than an attempt to brainwash the citizenry into voluntarily enslaving themselves to an all powerful centralized federal government.

A centralized government with absolute power that incrementally strips citizens of their liberty while threatening the very destruction of our society with a debt that runs in the trillions is not what they fought a revolution for. They did not fight a revolution to create and maintain a global empire requiring a series of never ending foreign wars. They did not fight a revolution to create a national government with the power to restrict and regulate virtually every aspect of your every day and personal lives right down to what you do in your own home or bedroom.

However, I refuse to let the statists and tyrants win. I celebrate the 4th with the same zeal as our Founding Fathers. I celebrate the principles and values this nation was founded upon. Namely, I celebrate the greatest idea born of our revolution; if you can't leave then you aren't free -- that the right to peacefully establish a government of our own choosing is the.greatest of human rights.

I celebrate that and not the bastardization of our nation or the holiday by the statists and tyrants.

The 4th is not a celebration of the illusion of freedom we all have, but a celebration of that spontaneous, unadulterated, American revolution which was the embodiment of the freedom which exists in all people. We must continue to celebrate it in order to never forget Americanism, which to me is that universal right to freedom and happiness. You can be an American if you subscribe to principles of the American revolution, without ever setting a foot in America.

If you hate this country so much then leave. Seriously, I get sick and tired of all the belly aching by the far right in this country. Just pack your bags and get the f*ck out.

This is the greatest place on the earth and we have to many spoiled whiney brats that have no idea what it is like to live in some of the sh*t holes of this world. We enjoy lives that are far better than any thing our founding fathers could imagine. They would look at a post like this in our time and place in history with absolute contempt. We are far far freer than they could ever hope and wealthy beyond measure. This is especially true for everyone in this nation that is not a white wealthy landowner.

PS The good ole days were not that good. I would suggest you read a little more history.

This settles it, I'm going to live in Finland or Iceland or Sweden! :)

I love living in the U.S. and Oklahoma but always shouting "we're #1!" is a little Aggie. Clearly we are not "#1" or even #30 in a lot of important areas. Saying that we are won't change that.

instead of bitching and moaning about our "current" government (without recognizing the incompetence of our past government), how about we celebrate the incredible risk our founding fathers took to create a new nation - including risking their own lives... literally.

get over it and enjoy your day off, and thank the men who were smarter and braver than most of us can possibly fathom.

And I think this was said earlier, but it isn't about celebrating the government. It is about remembering those who lost their lives and risked their own lives so that we could live free today. Compared to a lot of countries we are lucky. The Fourth of July is not about the government, it is about the celebration of our freedom.

Thank You to all of the veterans of the wars in our past and to the currently active troops. THANK YOU. I can't thank you enough but Thank You.
