I'm going in October with my wife.

Bellagio has the best pillows. SRSLY. The lobby is pretty too, just expect to spend an arm and a leg to eat there.

Stay wherever you want, but drop some blotter and go stare at the fountains at the Bellagio. It's worth it.

how many nights are you going for? why not split the trip between the two?

I think we reserved a deluxe room, but they upgraded us to one of their small suites at no charge. The room was very well appointed.

We stayed at Harrah's. It was mostly a dump, but we only were in the room to sleep and... yeah. But I liked the Venetian better than the Bellagio. Didn't try their buffet, but I liked the atmosphere better. Plus, Kickass sports bar nearby at the Palazzo.

If I'm going to light my money on fire, I'd rather do it at the tables than sleeping...

I'd walk there after waking up at Imperial Palace :D

Nicest place I have stayed is probably the Hilton. Of course I haven't stayed anywhere in Vegas on my own dime in a while

I haven't stayed in the best places in Vegas, but I'd just about be willing to bet that I've spent nights in some of the dumpiest places there. I will say, though, that if you have any sense about you, that's one of the funnest cities in which to be homeless.

I like Venetian better because of the fact that it's connected to the Palazzo and you're in walking distance to the Wynn / Encore. There's so much **** to do between those two casinos you'll never need to leave if you don't want to. I'd stay at the Palazzo if it was me. Newer rooms and they're huge.

We bought a 24-Hour buffet pass for around $45. It covered 7 or 8 hotels and we doubled up breakfast so we got 4 meals out of it. Very good deal considering the prices of Vegas restaurants.

When I lived there in '96 you could get the breakfast buffet at the Sahara for a whopping 2 bucks. Of course, 2 bucks buys you a lot of grease.

Aria has great deals right now, including daily buffet comps, for a very nice place. It doesn't wow you like Bellagio/Venetian, but is more subtle. If you like big crowds, Cosmo all the way to Venetian was packed with people. Aria was busy, but never crowded.

I would avoid Planet Hollywood unless you are eating at one of their upstairs restaurants (Koi).

Cosmo does look awesome....a little scary to see high-rise balconies on the strip though.

i do, but @ that time i couldn't afford $4.99.

we stayed bellagio when it was new. very nice.

we ate there, @ "Prime" i think. tab for 6 of us was over $500.

last time we were there we stayed @ Ballys, & it was comped. same nites @ bellagio, (just across the street) was priced to me @ $700. no rooms are that nice.

we've stayed @ Ballys 3 or 4 times & it's nice.It was originally the MGM.
we've stayed @ several different places, mostly in that general area.
a nice clean room is really all you need. fancy isn't much better.

back in my younger days, i have stayed in some real dumps. no money back in those days. saw some good shows tho, Connie Francis, Elvis, Fats Domino, Rowan & Martin, Don Rickles. One i really enjoyed was (the late) Danny Gans.

And ****ty contemporary furniture in the rooms. The wife and I stayed in one of their suites in February...the only thing they had that was better than any room we've stayed at Bellagio/Venetian/Wynn/Aria was a washer/dryer combo, which came in handy after my wife got beer spilled on her at a concert across the street at Planet Ho. Other than that, the casino is nice, the restaurants are decent, but the rooms were disappointing. Thanks, but we're sticking with our second home at Bellagio.

I disagree with the long walk statement. It's connected to the Venetian/Palazzo complex, it's across the street from the recently renovated, and slightly hip Treasure Island and it's across the street from the Fashion Show Mall.

And it's probably a 5 minute walk to Caesar's and the forum shops.

which steak house is the best to eat at in Vegas?

One of the best meals I've ever had was at Prime at Bellagio.

My wife and I have eaten at every restaurant there...and they're all AWESOME. Our favorite is Picasso, but Prime, LeCirque, Jasmine and Michael Mina are all top notch. Hell, even the bars/lounges are great too. Our favorite is the Petrossian Lounge by the entrance (with the Steinway piano)...Whitney Phoenix is a player there and a good friend of ours, so we make it a point to always stop by whenever he's on shift. And, IMO, the pool is the best one in Vegas. The buffet, if you don't mind shelling out over $30 for dinner, is constantly rated as the best in town (with king crab legs and beef wellington among the selections). Bellagio is our second home...it's where we went on our honeymoon (Penthouse Suite...and also after my first deployment in 09) and where we've stayed once a year since 2005.

Note, no I haven't stayed at EVERY hotel on the Strip, so that doesn't mean I can accurately rate the ones I haven't stayed at, which are: Hooters, Ballys, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, Harrahs, Casino Royale, the Palazzo (stayed at Venetian twice), and Encore (stayed at Wynn twice). All the rest of them, we've stayed at.

We had one of the best meals of our live there last month. Bartalotta in the Wynn was beyond amazing. They fly live fish in daily from the Mediteranian and you pick out the one you want, the cook it, and serve it whole and filet it at your table. Plus they constantly bring you exotic foods that you've never tried before. It is expensive but then again everything is in Vegas.

Our table at the private cabanas:

Before it closed, Alex at the Wynn was the best restaurant EVAR! So now the title reverts to Picasso...

I liked Sinatra at Encore too...great atmosphere.

-Standard Rooms, Venetian wins. All suites. Very nice
-Poker room, tie. Top rooms in Vegas. Venetian has the lowest rake tournaments.
-Buffet, Bellagio, as Venetian does not have one. But the Bellagio buffet is one of the top three in Vegas
-Gambling conditions. Bellagio, even though their blackjack rules are constantly getting worse. Better video poker pay tables.
-Night Club. Venetian wins, Tao is more popular than The Bank. Watch the parade of drunk girls in little black dresses coming down the escalator at 4am from Tao. Very entertaining!
-Other Restaurants, tie. Both places have lots of top notch places.
-Location, Bellagio, but not by much. Bellagio to me is more center Strip and more happening. Next to Cosmopolitan, which is a very interesting place. It's buffet, The Wicked Spoon is a very unique experience. Tram ride to City Center and Aria.
-Pool, tie. Both elegant, but not a lot to them.
-Comps, Bellagio. Venetian's hotel and casino are run by different entities, and most of the food outlets are independents. So to get a comp, the casino is "paying" more than a similar comp from Bellagio. Your comp dollar goes further at Bellagio. Not that their giving the place away these days though!
-Shows. Tie. Both places have multiple shows to see, including lounge shows.

So I can't make the decision for you, because I don't know what is important to you. Hope this helps.

In case some of our new friends missed it, I wanted to show everyone how a real 2BCer does it.

Anyone remember the good ole' days when you could get all you could eat for $4.99?

I remember before Benny Binion was murdered, you could get that kickass steak dinner with all the fixings at the Horseshoe for $4.99, then if you played $5 blackjack for a couple hours, they'd comp your dinner. Those were good times.

Have you jettisoned the alien being from your insides yet?

Viking Kitten
9/20/2011, 03:33 PM
Well JM, although it feels at times that this particular alien wants to come out John Hurt-style, it looks like Oct. 7 will be the day of arrival. So unless conference realignment really shakes things up, this means my daughter may spend all her birthdays in Dallas.
