But seriously, there has to be an actual reason, whether it's sensical or not. Too much drinking on the 4th? The 4th is a religious holiday? Jesus loves 'merica?

I'm not sure it matters a whole lot this year, most of the celebration will be on the preceding weekend.

Oklahoma closes liquor stores on every federal holiday and during elections.

Progress as promised!!

It is illegal in the state of Oklahoma to sell packaged liquor for consumption "off-premises" on Sundays and holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. In addition, liquor stores can only be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and even low-point beer can not be sold at grocery stores or convenience stores between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

As of 2007, liquor stores can now be open on election days.

I'm not sure why folks complain about liquor stores being closed on holidays and Sundays. Who cares...plan ahead. If you can't plan ahead it's probably because you are too drunk and you don't need liquor that day.

The real problem is why are BBQ places not open on Sundays. Sunday is a great day for BBQ.

But that's the whole point of the sign, JK. Our nation's founders didn't "adapt and overcome" when England was trying to impose unfair taxes on them. They finally said "eff this bulls**t" and went to war. Sure we can plan ahead* and work around stupid, pointless laws... but we shouldn't have to do so.

1) I wore my seat belt before there was ever a law telling me I had to.

2) Requiring seat belts is hardly stupid and pointless in the face of overwhelming evidence that seat belts save lives in the event of a crash.

3) Driving on a public roadway is not a fundamental right.

The Contitution actually does guarantee as a fundamental right the right for citizens to move about as they please. The US government cannot restrict us from moving about within the country without reason...

Said that to say: it would be an interesting challenge to say that we have the FUNDAMENTAL right to drive on public roads, assuming all other laws are being followed.

There are three truths in life:
Jewish people do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian faith.
Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store.

The pastor of a poor Baptist church passed away and the congregation went into town to take up a collection for the funeral. "Would you give $5 to bury the Baptist preacher?" "Here's $10," said the atheist, "bury two of them."

Alright, now that that's out of my system we can see those who see no problem with this don't have two words in their vocabulary and those word are 'fun' and 'freedom.'

For a bunch of people who talk about "free market economics" you sure don't have a problem taking millions away from all the liquor store owners who would surely make a nice chunk of change.

Neo-cons, they hate big government, unless it's their big wacky-religious big government.

I don't think the sales of those businesses are as regulated as alcohol or else you probably could. If the majority of businesses closed for the holiday, I would not GAS as long as I knew about it ahead of time and could buy what I needed to buy if I needed to buy it.

A bit of a different direction here (Although I think MR-82 mentioned it). I do not think that any business should be able to require employees to work on Federal Holidays. If you have enough volunteers or run an owner operated business, that is a different matter.. There should never be any restriction on days/hours of operation for licensed businesses otherwise.

I do appreciate the lesson. Just make sure the "giving" ends at that. I finally got rid of the crabs and don't need anything new popping up.
