You really shouldn't be eating them in months that don't have an R in them. Nasty little parasites and such.

When are you supposed to eat em? Squirrel season is from May 15 - Jan. 31 I believe. Unless you have some in the deep freeze, February - April is a no go. Rutting season for the tree rats. If you want to know how I know stuff like this...I grew up a country boy in southern Oklahoma. Its just something you do...and I like to do mine fried with fried potatoes. I only do the legs, though. My dad picks at the rest of it. He's old school like that...and nasty.

Back straps are the best part. Hell you can do the whole spine just like its another chicken leg.

Geez. What a moron I am. You only eat them in the R months. And they're damn tasty little rodents if I say so myself. Next to wild turkey, my fave.

Maybe I misinterpreted your post. We normally don't eat them from May-August. Sept.-December is prime for that. I guess months that end in R are best if you don't freeze them. All this talk makes me want to go squirrel hunting. I need to sight in my .22 or else I'll have to use my open-sighted one. I prefer the scope because I can scope trees over far away.

Sorry, GDC, a third of a squirrel would only arouse my appetite without bedding it down properly.

I can kill a squirrel with a slingshot. I'm practicing with primitive weapons as once the economic collapse begins the squirrels will go pretty quick, ammo will run out and House Cats will be the thing everyone is looking for....

Oh, you can have the whole thing. Me and Pete already had one apiece. We ran across a whole... gopher village.

I'm currently trying to rid my new yard of moles and/or gophers. But after reading Troup's post maybe I should let them mulitply? Might get me and the family through the winter months.
