Sometimes it sucks to not have online banking but that's forgiven on days like today. We got a call first thing this morning from them letting me know that someone had used my bankcard with companies out of Germany, Sweden, and a couple places in Africa for the amount of $0. She had already put a hold on the card pending our cancellation.

Thanks Scott for that mental image. The thought of sic'em pr0n makes me a little queasy - be it states' rights, confederate or grown men dressing up as WWII Germans in a paint ball war.

Seriously dude, you are just tempting fate with this statement on this board. Your own thread went from credit card fraud to sic'em pr0n in less than 2 hours.

My bank has done this for me. Once with my debit card and once my wife's debit card. It was Bank of America. Neither instance cost me a penny. Just had to wait on the new card to come in and fill out a fraud investication report which took something like 2 minutes each.

I work in the department of my bank that deals with debit cards and fraud. It is customary to refund any fraudulent charges made on a debit card.

I had guys in Columbia wipe out both mine and my wife's accounts. We both used an ATM machine on the resort in the Dominican Republic.

They really need to require SecurID type technology on all bank accounts and credit cards so even if you steal all the relevant information you only have a minute or so before the ID expires.

You could even imbed the token on the cards themselves which would mean if you lost your card you would be at risk but at least you'd know if you physically had your card you're safe as far as ATM withdrawals go.

Given, this doesn't help my argument.

Yes, but you get reamed with overdraft charges if more withdrawals come in. That should be illegal. Banks have done too little to protect their clients. Like I said in the previous post, there are technologies that could help but banks don't want to incur the cost.
