We just purchased a new Dell desktop. It comes with 15 months of "McAfee Pearl Fasttrack". Our current computer has recently had all kinds of problems with viruses/trojans/spyware/etc, despite trying numerous different anti-virus/anti-spyware programs.

For those in the know, is there anything other than the McAfee you would recommend I install before I do anything with the new machine on the internet? I don't want to go through what we went through with this machine all over again with the new one. TIA

Quit surfing so much pron and you won't have viruses.

That's really all the help I can give for free.

I think maybe you should review the sites you visit :)

Should I run something as a supplement to the McAfee or just scrap McAfee altogether and go with something totally different? I know McAfee has a bad rep but I've read that their most recent offering is much improved...

We have Norton. Ran fine since we got it.

If you run two anti virus programs side by side, they'll either fight with each other, or consume so many resources that it makes your computer unusable.

I've worked in many different corporate environments and I'd say McAfee, Norton, and Trend Micro Antivirus are almost equals.

But everyone's mileage may vary.

You're probably already infected. Don't worry about it.

I'm shocked it has taken this long.

I've always used AVG and MalwareBytes with no problem.

Uninstall Mcafee, download and install Microsoft Windows defender (free).

Grab Firefox and get the adblopck plus addon and subscribe to easylist. Use Firefox for your web browsing.

Not perfect, but is about the best you can do where everything still works like you expect and without decent computer knowledge.

I have used Norton for the last 5 years, and I would recommend it to anyone (We get three licenses, so also covers my Grandma and Mother in Law)

If I had to pick another one, I would go with Ad Aware Pro or Vipre.
