A little scary? That place is terrifying during the day, after the sun sets it would be a guarantee that you get mugged on the way to your car. And yet, I still don't want them to move to another venue.

Why is this game not prime time like 7 pm our something?

Because sucky, non-bowl teams like Texas do not deserve primetime.

I also suspect there's some competition that weekend for the primetime slots with other big matchups. It's a rivalry game, yes, but Texas screwed up big time last year.

badger
6/22/2011, 03:04 PM
Look here. (http://espn.go.com/college-football/schedule/_/week/6) That's our competition for primetime slots that weekend.

Here's a few that I think are going to get the late games:

-Ohio State at Nebraska (already announced at 7 p.m. on ABC)
-Florida at LSU (also announced as 7 p.m., possibly CBS since that's the SEC channel)

A few others that stand out:
-Georgia at Tennessee
-Texas A&M at Texas Tech
-Miami (FL) at Virginia Tech
-Auburn at Arkansas
-Iowa at Penn State
-Connecticut at West Virginia

Methinks a few of those so-so matchups and the big time ones bonked us down to 11 a.m. status... or rather, bonked Texas down.

Trivia: Since 2000, OU has been part of a College Gameday site (either as the visiting team or the home team) every season except one year. We all can guess which year that was :mack:

Actually the tv networks have tried to get the RRS on prime time for YEARS.... but both schools always veto it...

and 2:30 is the regional slot, so the game usually ends up in the 11am slot since it's the national broadcast. Last year texas sucked donkey balls so we got 'relegated' to the regional 2:30 slot....

I remember the first time OU-Texas was kicking off at 11 a.m., I was still in band and for once, we didn't have a morning rehearsal, because it was too d@mn early.

I wonder if they still declare that to be "too d@mn early" or if they have 4 a.m. wakeup calls for a 6 a.m. rehearsal ;)

LOL....

The Average Joel....

So I went to a home football game for the University of Texas and I noticed a few things:

1) The longhorn really is the perfect mascot for the University of Texas. After all, with Bevo by your side you are never more than a few feet away from a potential BBQ.

2) The University of Texas needs a choir director in the stadium. Every time they "sing" the fight song, all you hear is a conglomeration of chanting and swearing (mostly swearing) that vaguely resembles a biker-gang initiation. I probably heard the Texas fight song 20 times and the only words I could decipher with certainty were "Texas", "Fight" and "Sucks". No seriously. Maybe they just need to sing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" to get warmed up.

If you just got that last joke then you are a full on BYU-lovin, green jello eatin' Mormon. I salute you.

3) Do not laugh when Colt McCoy gets hit hard and stays down on the ground for a while. Even though I was wearing full on burnt-orange (when in Rome) and I was sitting in the faculty section surrounded by 75-year old professors, I still almost got a good-old Texas tarin' and featherin' for that one.

4) You know you are in Austin when you walk into a gas station and there is a guy wearing 6-inch platform shoes, white bell-bottoms and a silver sequined shirt unbuttoned to the navel and no one even takes a second glance.

Just for the record all you University of Texas football fans: Brigham Young University has as many national championships and Heisman trophy winners in the last 25 years as you. Recognize!!!

Avatar was the awesomest version of Pocahontas I have ever seen.

When we elected Barack Obama, we elected a good looking, eloquent ideologue. Basically, we elected Sarah Palin without the experience.

One of my good friends, the Contemplative Tulsan, recently wrote about the decade that was and all the things that happened to him. Which got me thinking about the last ten years of my life and all I can say is HOLY MOTHER OF MARVIN THE MARTIAN! I've done a whole lot of livin'! Consider that in the last ten years I have: Returned from a mission to a third world country, met the love of my life, gotten married, received both a bachelors degree and a masters degree, stood on the Great Wall of China, floated in Hong Kong harbor, squatted in a Viet-cong tunnel, ridden a Cambodian elephant, gotten a full time job, moved seven times, bought my first home, saw every episode of Firefly twice, and brought five of my own children into this world.

Now one final word before I pass out from my Claritin-D'licious induced haze: desultory. Why? Because it is random.

I hate lazy posters and posters that don't do their homework and just talk out of their ***. LL was a good example. He sometimes knew what he was talking about but instead of backing it up he'd just keep piling lizard skin on it.

I actually like 11 am kickoffs. I understand why people that drink all night hate it but usually when I'm up drinking all night I'm not in bed till about 3 or 4 the next afternoon anyway so it's perfect for me. I hate night kickoffs more than 11 am kickoffs. And the games never end till close to 11:00. If you go to games you have to go through traffic and don't get home till near midnight for most kickoffs that are 6 or later. 11 am the game is over by 3 ish usually.

Years ago someone on hornfans opined the OU-tx game would never be shown in prime time because the fairgrounds were located in the "Ghettoplex"... but just think how many more hotel rooms would be rented if it were a night game. Seems like enough $ money could be spent on police OT to ensure public safety.

Isn't the Coliseum in LA located in a seedy part of town? But SUC play games in the evening, right?
