so i spent all of yesterday up at Baptist in OKC - watching my aunt be taken off life support. She's been in the hospital for 3 weeks because her white blood cell count has been down - from the chemo...she's been otherwise "fine" and even called me on saturday to talk - hoping to go home

how things change in the course of 24 hours - she developed pneumonia - and breathing became a serious issue - then they had to intubate her - then we find out that the cancer has spread to her skull and that the doctors are fighting a losing battle

hours, days, weeks at the most......so, we're making her comfortable with the wonderful drug that morphine is and now we just wait

I watched my grandmother take her last breath in 2007, and my aunt was there with me...now its her turn

i dont really have a mother - but she did everything in her power to make me feel like one of her own - and treated me as such my entire life - tough day yesterday

thanks all - this is how I'll remember her - a photo we took in Destin in 2010 - it kind of captures her personality

So sorry to hear of ur loss Jon; i lost my 81 year old Uncle(my mom's brother and a lifelong Henryettan) to cancer barely 2 weeks ago; he suffered so badly over the last 3 months that to be honest it was a blessing when he was finally taken from us; my son really took it hard because Bobby was kind of his surrogate grandpa who always came to watch him play ball and with Conner being a Senior this fall there will be a void at the baseball field that can't be filled. Hang in there bro.

Condolences to you and yours,

The hardest part of getting older is losing those who have guided you along the way. It never gets easier.

I lost my dad 30 years ago, and I still miss him. Particularly when something happens that I really wish I could have shared with him.

Remember the good times.

jk I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It's hell. Cancer is a soul sucking bastard of a disease.

My mom passed away a year ago last February. She had lung cancer also. We thought she was going to beat it, but cancer cheats.

From the picture your aunt looks like a terrific person. Someone who was just great to be around.

Try to think about the good times. It will help carry you through these rough times.

Lung cancer took my mom two years ago. She went from riding her bike 15 miles a day to dying within a very short period of time. In the end I was happy for the suffering to end.

Sucks though. My condolences, JK.

Lost my mom's husband and my best friend both to cancer within seven months. I miss them terribly. It's a scourge I wish we'd wipe off the planet for good. Thank you for being there for her.

I'm so very sorry your precious, adorable aunt went through this, and you all along with her. It's simply not fair or right and I wish we could help you in some way. I'm sorry the world has lost such a sweet, fun soul.

Heavenly Father, we lift Jon and his family to you in this time of grief. We ask that you permeate their hearts and minds with your love, strength and peace. Hold them closely and comfort them as only you can. Suffuse Jon's heart with happy memories and with the certainty that his aunt will once again be with all who love her. Although it will be a long time to those who remain behind, the reunion will be as in the blink of an eye in the eternity we will have with those we are missing now. Hold JK and family gently in the palm of your loving hand. This we claim and thank you for in the name of your son and our brother, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Love, peace and comfort, JK. :(
