I was doing inventory on my alcohol and discovered my Jack Daniels 125th Anniversary Edition box of JD, unopened.

Is this worth anything? I also have Johnnie Walker red and black from 1959, with their government seal still on them as well.

To a collector, maybe. The taste isn't going to really be all that different. Whiskeys and bourbons are aged in their casks. When you see, for example, a MacAllen 25-year, you're looking at something which was actually aging in oak or sherry casks for 25 years prior to bottling.

True that, Midtowner, but the collector's value would certainly be several times the sticker price for either one, regular type, at the store today.

That's the one I have. I bought it for $40 when I graduated the sheriff academy but never opened it.

This $40 bottle of Jack is stored in a house that I paid...literally...hundreds of thousands of dollars to own. Unbelievable, I know.

That JD will bring about $150-200 from the right buyer. You'll see guys try to get more on eBay but it won't happen.

If you want to sell it, let me know; I'm a whisky collector but of only three distilleries in Scotland. I do know several bourbon collectors that might be interested. I'd be happy to broker the sale for you if you'd like.

The JW might have a little collector's value, but not much. JW was very very popular and plentiful after the war (and still is) so there are a lot of bottles out there. Furthermore, it's a blend so it doesn't have the same interest to a collector that a single malt would have. Ergo, high supply, low demand. I'm a drinking collector so I only typically buy bottles I'll eventually consume, even if it takes a few years. So I'd pass on the Red but would offer $75 (about double of current retail) for the Black (assuming verifiable provenance).

The appreciation from $40 to $197 represents a nice return, in the end you are only talking a couple of bills.

Do that bottle and yourself justice. When the time and people are right, break it out and drink it, all of it, in one sitting.
