"Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."

Anyone work for NBC and know the real reason they edited out "a portion" of the Pledge of Allegiance? I mean, the ..."one nation under a portion with..." part is very important to me.

When was that portion added to the pledge? Sometime in the 1950's wasn't it? Coincident with the Red Scare?

It was added in 1954. The early version was written in 1892 and adopted as the Pledge in 1942.

Thank you and please excuse my laziness.

So, yeah, it would appear to have been an effort to prove one's patriotism/christianity.
