10 IMPORTANT VICTORIES IN THE STOOPS ERA
Oklahoma 51, Texas A&M 6
Oct. 23, 1999 — Norman

This game served official notice that the Big 12 South had changed. The Sooners were coming off fourth-quarter collapses against Notre Dame and Texas, but dominated A&M start to finish.

Oklahoma 63, Texas 14
Oct. 7, 2000 — Dallas

Nobody saw this one coming. Quentin Griffin’s six rushing TDs, a steady Josh Heupel performance and a Rocky Calmus interception return for a touchdown put OU back in the national spotlight.

Oklahoma 31, Nebraska 14
Oct. 28, 2000 — Norman

After a decade of abuse and embarrassment at the hands of the Huskers, the Sooners scored 31 unanswered points and usurped Nebraska’s No. 1 ranking.

Oklahoma 27, Kansas State 24
Dec. 2, 2000 — Kansas City

Oklahoma had no claim on the Big 12. This was Bob Stoops’ first championship, keyed by big plays from Heupel (two TD passes, two option pitches to Griffin).

Oklahoma 13, Florida State 2
Jan. 3, 2001 — Miami

College football’s best offense was shut down by the game’s best defense, and Griffin’s 10-yard run after a turnover sealed the Sooners’ first title in 15 years.

Oklahoma 20, Alabama 13
Sept. 6, 2003 — Tuscaloosa

This wasn’t the powerhouse Tide of yesteryear (or today), but still stands as Stoops’ best road win. A gutsy fourth-down punt fake and a Jason White-to- Brandon Jones bomb clinched it.

Oklahoma 12, Texas 0
Oct. 9, 2004 — Dallas

UT hadn’t been shut out in 282 games, and there hadn’t been an OU-Texas shutout since ‘72. Adrian Peterson (225 yards) became the fourth Sooner to run for 200 against Texas.

Oklahoma 38, Missouri 17
Dec. 1, 2007 — San Antonio

Against No. 1-ranked Mizzou — 41-31 losers in Norman earlier in the year — the Sooners dominated the second half, won their fifth conference title and became the Big 12’s first repeat champion.

Oklahoma 61, Oklahoma State 41
Nov. 29, 2008 — Stillwater

OU won the BCS tiebreaker, then won its sixth Big 12 title and played for the national title.

Oklahoma 47, Oklahoma State 41
Nov. 27, 2010 — Stillwater

Another dramatic win in Stillwater, another threeway tie. This time, OU used a OU-OSU triumph to beat Nebraska for its seventh Big 12 title and finally won a BCS bowl game (against Connecticut).

This is extremely stupid.

Clearly 2000 KSU, 2008 and 2010 OkSt were better by any measure. 2003's win over Bama was a great game, but it probably isn't in Stoops's top 15-20 road wins. You might be able to argue it's Stoops's best non-conference road win.

Sure hope you can't argue that come October.

What "p" key? There's a "p" key on this keyboard? Really?

P.S. Yeah I need a new keyboard. I'll get right on it next road trip to Garden City.

OU-Nebraska 2000 was the biggest ever.

My dad and I were at OU basketballs Midnight Madness the night before this game. The entire town was painted Crimson and Cream. It was unbelievable. Unfortunately didnt go to the game though, but it felt like we were at that game the day before. Stoops also had a speech at Midnight Madness the night before the game too, cant remember what he said, but he got the crowd really pumped.

Yeah, I'd definitely put that up there over the OSU game that followed.

Wouldn't really call the OSU or Mizzou games that big...great games but not really that big as OU was expected to win...
