its not mean imo - its a great way to teach a dog to "leave it".....a command that has come in handy MANY times in my house

but great dogs indeed!

I know, My last Black lab I could tell him sit and then place a bite of steak on his nose and tell him to leave it, He would sit there even if I left the room , Come back in and tell him OK and He had it snapped up.;)
