Sarah Palin snub by Margaret Thatcher aides infuriates US rightwing (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jun/09/margaret-thatcher-sarah-palin-meeting)

Rush Limbaugh joins supporters accusing Thatcher's circle of disgracing former PM with 'Palin is nuts' comment

A firestorm on the US right has erupted after the Guardian reported that Sarah Palin will be denied a meeting with Lady Thatcher on the grounds that it would be "belittling" for her to meet the darling of the Tea Party movement.

Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host, devoted the opening section of his radio show to denouncing the "preposterous" Guardian report, as Palin supporters accused Thatcher's circle of disgracing the former prime minister.
The US conservative right reacted furiously after the Guardian reported that Thatcher's aides had decided it would be inappropriate for her to meet Palin, who is planning to visit London next month en route to Sudan. Palin has been touring US historical sites (an excursion that saw her slip up this week on the subject of Paul Revere, the American patriot who made a famous "midnight ride" to warn of approaching British forces).

One Thatcher ally told the Guardian: "Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

The former prime minister's friends say she will show the level she punches at when she marks the centenary of the birth of Ronald Reagan by attending the unveiling of a statue of the late president outside the US embassy in Grosvenor Square on independence day, 4 July. The Thatcher ally added: "Margaret is focusing on Ronald Reagan and will attend the unveiling of the statue. That is her level."

The response from the US right was swift. Limbaugh opened his show on Wednesday with a lengthy denunciation of the Guardian after the New York Daily News and a host of US publications picked up on the comments.
"There's a story out there today, and it's an illustration of how things happen, how things are said and reported," Limbaugh told his listeners. "This is preposterous, and I have personal knowledge of this."

Limbaugh said he knew Thatcher well and embarked on a lengthy description of how he had driven her round a Florida golf course on a golf cart: "I have been with her in social and professional settings as well. It's obvious that her health is not today what it was, but back in the day, Margaret Thatcher would in no way allow an aide to refer to anybody, Sarah Palin notwithstanding, as 'nuts'."

La Donna Hale Curzon, the host of Sarah Palin Radio, accused the Thatcher circle of disgracing the former prime minister. "Margaret Thatcher would never call a fellow Conservative, let alone Gov Palin 'nuts'," Hale Curzon tweeted. "Thatcher's handlers have disgraced the Iron Lady."

The ally who criticised Palin said the Thatcher circle would not change their minds despite the backlash. "Margaret will not be meeting Sarah Palin. If necessary we will make sure that Margaret has an off day when Palin is in London."

Critics of Palin revelled in the backlash against Thatcher's circle, whose dismissive views of Palin undermine her claim that she is the victim of a witch-hunt by left-leaning mainstream media. Palin regards Thatcher as one of her heroines.

Andrew Sullivan, of The Dish blog, which chronicles Palin's weaknesses, wrote : "As usual, the tired old bigoted comedian Rush Limbaugh took offence that anyone could call Sarah Palin 'nuts,' even though she is quite obviously a few sandwiches short of a picnic, and her grip on reality is, shall we say, tenuous. And as usual, Limbaugh blamed it on the left, ie the Guardian's Wintour/Watt blog.

"What he doesn't understand is that Palin's nutsiness is not a partisan matter in Britain, or anywhere else in the world. It is an obvious truth marvelled at by all. Palin's emergence as a serious figure in American politics has made the country a laughing stock across the world. The idea that a stateswoman like Thatcher, in advanced dementia, would be used by such a crackpot is simply unseemly."

I find it pathetic that Sarah Palin tried to bootstrap some Iron Lady mojo, just because she was passing through Heathrow on her way to wherever. Seriously, who came up with this idea? Thatcher wasn't in particularly good health when Reagan died. And who does Caribou Barbie's research? Even I knew that Thatcher had declined into dementia.

No we need a different tax system. Raising taxes will probably decrease the amount of money the federal government gets because all the money from the rich will go to overseas account and savings bonds.

That's way too much of a central planning, conservative government solution which is the problem we have anyway. The people get hurt because they end up with less choice and competition. The government ends up just fine till it can't pay for it.

Healthcare is already socialized (An HMO is socialism for a profit).

Anyone that is out to gain the most money is doing so at the peril of others..it has to come from somewhere. If corporations only have one function, to profit, wouldn't they want ALL of it (Even if the economy goes to $hit?).

We seem to have a polar opinion of what "moral" means. She is as immoral as they come (Blow Jobs don't come close to pimping your daughters for personal gain and demonizing large portions of our citizenry)

How does one plan for the unknown.

If we knew what we were going to possibly die from and how much it would cost to avoid it, we would all set back the appropriate amount.

I'm not sure I am the best person to use as an example but yes divorce lawyers have seen to it that my ex-wife's will be fine no matter how long I live.

I saw to it that my kids got good educations and to understand that taking care of themselves is always going to be a better option than sitting around and hoping someone else looks out for them out of the goodness of their hearts.

Then buy insurance. Insurance is a great idea. I never said it is bad concept. Part of being responsible would be to insure for losses one cannot cover themselves.

There are not very many unknowns in normal everyday life. You are going to die. Everyone is going to die. If you contract a rare disease that is expensive to treat you probably are not going to get that treatment unless you are indigent and the government is paying the bill.

Life is not fair. No amount if legislation will make it fair. But by trying to cover every deadbeat in America we are making healthcare unobtainable to those that do work and try to take care of themselves.

The healthcare industry is so attached to the government tit it doesn't have time to see you.

Man, do some research before you say something like that.

Like what?

The companies-at-large have all forged a "usual and customary" price for services (Largely based upon the government reimbursement rate...in this case, a Godsend). They have effectively eliminated the ability of other small companies to compete with them due to exclusivity contracts. They use the guise of "competition" when in reality they are in collusion.

A public option (Allowing folks to buy in to Medicaid, for example) would have increased the leverage of the people against conglomerates like Big Insurance, which are dangling closely to the line of antitrust (By having preferred partners in the pharma and pharmacy industry).

If you don't have health insurance but you buy an expensive car or whatever other luxury items to pacify yourself then you shouldn't expect others to carry you in your time of need.

The use of tax dollars is driving up the cost of healthcare and will eventually break the industry if not the country itself.

I hope I live long enough to see all the lazy f*ckers wandering the streets wondering where the free Pepsi and Nike gear went.

How about housing?

Housing, Big Macs, Mary Jane, Beer, Healthcare. This oppression will not stand! The people have rights!

I don't know where you were going with this but there's a big difference between general welfare which is having rights basically and specific welfare which is redistribution of wealth or a nanny state. Which is what we have going on in many bigger government states today.

Hammer meet nail. At least she probably understands that the private sector creates wealth, unlike the Marxist we now have in the White House who believes that the private sector is "the enemy." And people are shocked why the economy is in tatters.

The private sector creates wealth as long as there is a minimal level of regulation. An uncontrolled private sector leads us to what we're in now.

You guys can pretend that the recession started in '09 all you want but it just makes you either a hypocrite or stupid.

Freddie and Fannie and the bank bailouts led to the recession. Both were government ran things. What do those have to do with the private sector?

The bank bailouts led to the recession? Seriously, that's your argument? Now that is some spin I haven't heard before.

You do realize that the recession began in late 2007, right?

You do realize that Bear Sterns and Lehman Bros. collapsed before any bailout, right? You also realize that other major banks were on the verge of collapse as well, right? You do realize that Bush wanted a hands-off approach but as the dominoes began to fall he was forced to abandon his philosophical objections and go with a bailout, right?

For the life of me, I can't imagine a scenario where a government infusion of capital without a corresponding increase in taxes could, in the short term, cause a recession.

You can argue about the bailouts all you want. You can say that they were unfair, were corporate welfare, created or reinforced a moral hazard, or will lead to long term budgetary problems. None of that has anything to do with a recession that was already underway.

Clearly the bailouts had nothing to do with causing the recession as I think it's pretty well understood that the cause would have to preceed the effect.

The recession ENDED in June of 2009 and probably, in part due to the bailouts, but probably not due to Obama's stimulus... The problem is that it has been two years and nothing has improved in most people's lives.

Damn Apple! Trying to make money on the Iphone. Who the **** do they think they are!

Seriously, your lack of basic economic understanding is scary.

Yet it somehow surmounts your level of reading comprehension and ability to form a rational argument.

Did you have to take any corporate ethics classes when you were being fed your "economic knowledge?"

If so, you would understand things like "dumping" and technological carrot dangling.
