I would say pretty typical, that is it was enjoyable.

Coale was terrific in all ways. ;) Even her autograph is sexy.

Tress Way is a very well-spoken young man. He spoke about the chapel service they have before each game. Often a guest speaker will use a David versus Goliath portrayal... "Some of the players, well, we decided we didn't like that too much. Face it... we're the Goliath when we take the field. We need to be Goliath 2.0 and learn from his mistakes!" Tress mentioned how they say a prayer before every workout; that they exhibit the same work ethic and gusto as Austin Box. He did speak about Box quite a bit.

Toby did a fine job as emcee.

Bob was upbeat and confident. "We expect to win the Big XII and win the National Championship." -spoken in a matter-of-fact way.

On Pressure: "aw, these reporters, you know, they ask about do I feel extra pressure being ranked number one. Sherri, Lon, all of us, nobody puts more pressure on ourselves than us. We expect to win every game."

"We (coaches) don't get to have contact with our players during the summer. Whether we achieve our goals depends very much on the preparation the fellows are doing right now. If you see our guys on the beach or rafting down some river, then they're not doing what needs to be done to get ready for the season."

When he finished the stump speech, the opportunity was given to ask questions. First question, from a lady.... "Coach, what about the secondary? I'm a little worried..." Bob: (blinks, shrugs) "Well, I'm not worried."

I really would have liked to stay and hear more, but I had to escort my elderly Dad and Father-in-law out so we could beat the rush.

Safe to say, a good time was had by all. :)

Another funny moment:

Coale's gals have had a GPA of 3.0 or better 25 of the 30 semesters she's been the coach. This info was passed on by Joe C to a round of applause.

Later on, Bob: "By the way, forget about me comparing my player's grades to Sherri's player's grades. That's not gonna happen." :D

I hope he doesn't mean that literally. Because that would mean the guys are expected not to have any personal life whatsoever. I would think Stoops would be OK with a player spending a day or two at the beach occasionally during the summer.

I'm not sure if that lady was bright enough to be embarassed, but she should have been.

School for my oldest, sophomore-to-be, ended today. He's in a 5A football program here in the Twin Cities. They have tomorrow off. "Strength team" (with two separate football camps sprinkled in) start Monday and go until a state-wide mandatory school-age athletics blackout date for 6 days over the 4th of July weekend. Then he has strength team and another camp that go until July 29. He then has 10 days off until start of two-a-days. Consider as a sophomore-to-be he has one less football camp and one less scrimmage than the varsity will have in that time period.

Also consider, this is Minnesota HS football.. not Oklahoma or Texas, where my perception is things get even a little more serious. Then consider the huge leap it is from HS to a major FBS college program.

That is to say, I'm not entirely sure he doesn't mean it literally. I'm sure the boys have Saturdays and Sundays... maybe.
