I'll take the Fairbanks/Switzer era. We can measure Bob's NCG appearances because they are documented by the BCS. But, I believe Barry technically had the same amount, they just were not #1 vs #2 matchups. When the "Game of the Century", along with 2 NC's are included in your 5 years, you will be hard to beat.
The 2nd and 3rd place eras are not terrible.

I like the most recent era where we beat UTerus 6 in a row. They were highly ranked every year. We one 1 national championship and competed for 2 others. What a great run. Not saying its the best, just the one I am familiar with.

we only won 5 :(

it's hard for me to not think it's the 50's with the streak and 2 titles

i think we won the conference for the whole damn decade

Why not just lump those 15 years all together and call it the best 15 years
of college football anywhere, anytime, anyone!

Miami and Nebraska had some pretty impressive runs in the 80's and 90's

and Texas in the 60's

It was the 5 years I attended OU frantically cramming a 4 year degree into 5 short years* :)

*hey, I had to work my way through school.

We can only speculate on what the five years from 1985-89 might have looked like if some of the players hadn't started running wild. Well, that and that whole Canes thingy.

I vote for 1971 through 1975. Those were some great years.

However, what could ever really match the 74 game unbeaten conference streak from 1946 or 1947 through 1958? Can you say "Oklahoma and the seven dwarfs"?

No team ever had or will have a run like OU in the 50s. This says it all.

I liked the 71-75 era best since I was there in the student section for the home games, went to my first OU/* game in 71 and actually knew some of the people responsible. Bud's accomplishments are history-book stuff for me, but I do get a warm feeling following Bob's teams from afar . . .

Its hard, but the 50s were awesome, of course I wasn't around to experience them so by my personnal experience the 70s were stupendous!!!
If we run about 4 more years of Conf champs and some Nat Champ appearances and a win or 2 of those It will be NOW!!!!

'71 - '75

'74 - '79

Just scary dominant and coincides with the wishbone hey-day.

Still the teams of the '50s must be given homage, no doubt.

And '74 - '79 happened to be the years I was a student with season tickets. Watched the last 2 Joe Washington/Selmon(s) years and all the Lott/Sims years. Good times.

As much as I hate to acknowledge it, Miami in the 80's was as dominant as has ever existed. No school has come close to matching the number of NFL 1st round draft picks they produced during that run, and into the 90's as well. I hated them then, and still do.

I think Bud had 10 losses from 1947-1958 or 59. That's unreal.
