View Full Version : The NJ governor's helicopter

badger

So in case you don't frequent the media sites, there is one going around now that NJ governor Chris Christie used a governmental helicopter to fly to his son's baseball game.

On one side, it is perfectly in his right as governor to fly that chopper all over the place for any purpose. Christie's office said that he only did it because of his schedule that day - he had to leave midway through the game to make a meeting.

On the other side, he has been very adamant about cutting unnecessary spending and Republicans in the past have attacked Democratic governors for unnecessary spending use.

my thoughts are its not a story

some will try and make it one to discredit what he's trying to do there in NJ - but....what many fail to realize is that politicians DO make sacrifices to serve - so he went and caught half a baseball game for his son - i wonder how many other events he's missed while out and about conducting the governors business

Yea..uh..I think missing family events is part of the deal that you accept when taking a job in a public office. You as a former military man understood that was part of the deal when you were serving..right? Over the last ten years I know guys that have missed half of their kids lives due to such...This was a waste of money and abuse of the system.

He's been a lot of fun since taking office, his self depreciating humor, his hard stance on the budget, etc.

The Dems were probably just waiting for something like this to jump on, much like they probably are (in vain) for Coburn to accept an earmark.

and i know of many occasions where the military spends money to allow soldiers to spend time with their families

serving in the military means the risk of deploying for long periods of time - running for governor isnt the same thing

He isn't my governor. If I was a NJ resident, I think I would be pretty mad. It isn't right IMO, but politicians will be politicians.

thats fine- public servants dont ever agree to give up their family lives - if its possible for him to spend time with his son - i highly encourage it

it would be one thing to pull the helo out on a saturday and fly around on it just for personal use - its another when he's on his way from point A to point B for work -and stops to see his son

NJ isn't Texas - its not like he had to fly very far - but with the traffic - and the burden an official motorcade places on those in traffic, and the law enforcement - use of a helo in a place like NJ is likely a much more efficient use of resources than trying to ferry around in a limo

MR2-Sooner86

The thing that really gets me is he took a limo after he got out of the helicopter to travel 100 yards. You can't walk that?

I think he should have his Weiner chopped off. $2500 per hour is what it cost to keep that Chopper in the air. I'm fine with it as long as he pays the fee for the Helicopter ride. I think he's a heck of a Dad and if his Son means that much to him he'd gladly pay for the ride to not discredit himself. Then it's not a Story....It's THE STORY! Wouldn't it be cool if they all would pay for these little side trips?

oh i'm sorry, i didnt realize that was code for me to shut the hell up

i think its funny most of us are here posting on the internet at work and complaining about a governor taking time out of his work schedule to go watch his kid play baseball

we're not happy unless we've got something to be truly angry about

Bad move!
But, we post mostly on nationally related politics. (NJ taxpayers should be the one's up in arms, if necessary).
But, not as bad as the Pres. taking all the U.S. taxpayer's stuff to a night out in NYC!

This story was put out by the DNC operatives, just in case he jumps into the race. The DNC wants to ensure they can drive his negatives as high as they can. It is totally political.

The previous governor quit using limos to drive to places because he was involved in an accident. He started using helicopters, but since he was a multi-millionaire, he was able to pay for private helicopter services.
