SCREW HOCKEY! THIS BABY IS ON IN AN HOUR ! ! !

Wednesday June 1, 2011 @ 8:00pm on OETA

"All of my operas have dealt on deep psychological levels with our American mythology," says composer John Adams, who conducts the Met premiere of his most famous opera. "The meeting of Nixon and Mao is a mythological moment in world history, particularly American history." Acclaimed director and longtime Adams collaborator Peter Sellars makes his Met debut with this groundbreaking 1987 work (which was originally broadcast on GREAT PERFORMANCES from Houston in 1988), an exploration of the human truths beyond the headlines surrounding President Nixon's 1972 encounter with Communist China. Baritone James Maddalena stars in the title role.

Okay, now this hockey deal. What is the difference between a power play goal and a normal goal? I have tried watching hockey a few times and no one ever scores.

I would like to see it. That is unless it is Chinese opera. I can't stand that for very long.

My former boss, Anand Panyarachun, was one of the key go between men arranging Nixon's visit. Okay, probably only I think that that is pretty cool. It is a pity that I never asked him about it.

No....it was in English with English subtitles for some reason....They had Breaks in the Opera last night where the Actors came right off stage and did interviews about the performance and past performances....you could see the behind scenes of people setting up the next act etc....then they did an interview with Peter Sellars the Director.

Think he should really talk to someone about doing something with his hair....

No....it was in English with English subtitles for some reason....

I think that they do that just because of habit. There are transcripts on all the Nixon tapes.

I found several meetings between my former boss and Nixon on the Google search function and they led back to those transcripts and there is no way that I am going to read through all of that.

I will just wait to see the opera and musical accompaniment to figure out when I should be paying attention.

Oppps, PG is probably gonna kill me now.
