make no mistake...

This is my last thread from work as this is my last day to work. I'll be turning in keys/badges/parking passes/laptop/blackberries/etc., then I'll hit the gym, go eat lunch with momma, and ride off into the sunset. 35 years, 11 months, and 26 days with the same company. Feels kinda weird actually.

Anyhow, I hope all you youngsters out there have a good enough gig that you may realize the dream of retirement before you're too old to enjoy it. Being able to go at 53 years, 9 months and 4 days is suhweeeeet.

Peace out homies.

OK. Upon further review, I believe he would have needed to deposit an amount equal to 7% of his military earning plus interest, for those years to count. Dean will probably be here in a while to straighten us out.

Dean did say 35 years with the same company so unless he considers the government as the company then this doesn't include military service.

Which begs the question, was he like 12 when he entered the military?

OK, I'll solve the mystery...

I joined the Army 5 days after I turned 17. I was in for 3 years, got out for a few months, then went to work at the USPS. So when I say I've got this time at one company, I mean the federal government - although the past 33 years have been with the USPS.

No, I've never carried a single piece of mail on a mail route (although I did spend my first 7 years in mail processing). I moved on to Vehicle Maintenance as a mechanic, then became a shop foreman all while living in Tucson. During this time I used to attend training in Norman at Couch Tower on the campus.

I got a fleet manager job in Spokane, WA, only stayed there 3-weeks, and got an instructor job in Norman in 1991. From there I moved up through the ranks and did all sorts of groovy things like open/operate/manage our ropes course, manage the NCED conference center (which allowed me to rub elbows with the Stoops/Coales/Sampsons/Spates/Cochell/Galloway folks and their players. Eventually I ended up managing several national training programs and that's what I retired from today.

Yes, my military time counts towards my retirement. No, I did not buy it back. If I was to draw social security when I'm eligible I would get docked 2% per year for my military time for not buying it back. I will not draw SS, so I will not get docked and my entire 3 years of military service counts towards my retirement.

I got taken out to lunch, happily turned in my stuff, and am making my first post as a proud ****ing civilian. No regrets, no tears, no worries. I'll be in the hay field before this weekend unless it rains today/tomorrow.

I think momma wants to have a party and she said to "invite your Soonerfan friends." I told her "if I do that, nobody will show up." Anyhow, we're probably gonna have a party at the Deanarosa, and yes, just like tailgates everyone is welcome when we have it. I've even got electricity/water if you wanna bring an RV, and I've got lots of room if you wanna tent camp. I'll let y'all know the date, and it may be as early as this Saturday.

Carry on, I'll be in the AO all day...

My advice is that you do not expect your family to be out there with you every time that you are, because you are going to be out there much more now. Just don't get Mama and the rest of family regretting your retirement.
