it's a nice gesture but is not what Memorial Day is for.

for those of you that get Veterans Day and Memorial Day confused

I just commented on the distinction in the Football Forum. Sorry...didn't see this here.

Thanks for the link. I didn't know the origins of the holiday. We do honor those who had served for our country and should always be remembered.

My family, at least starting with my grandparents, has always observed Memorial Day by putting flowers on the grave sites of deceased family buried in the Oakland, Madill and Shay cemeteries. It does make it convenient that my dad's side of the family has been in the same community for more than 100 years. We still have to do some looking around to find the grave sites for the great uncles and great aunts and great grandparents.

The new generation didn't know them and I don't expect them to honor them like my generation does. But, I still hope that they continue that tradition for the ones they did know and donate money so that these rural cemeteries can be maintained.

I think anymore it's amazing they relate the Day to anything other than a Day to take the boat out and get blasted....

It's Decoration Day.
And I've a mind to roll a stone on his grave.
But what would he say.
"Keeping me down, boy, won't keep me away."

It's Decoration Day.
And I knew the Hill Boys would put us away,
but my Daddy wasn't afraid.
He said "We'll fight till the last Lawson's last living day"

I never knew how it all got started
a problem with Holland before we were born
and I don't know the name of that boy we tied down
and beat till he just couldn't walk anymore.
But I know the caliber in Daddy's chest
and I know what Holland Hill drives.
The state let him go, but I guess it was best
cause nobody needs all us Lawsons alive.

Daddy said one of the boys had come by
the Lumber Man's favorite son.
He said, "Beat him real good but don't dare let him die
and if you see Holland Hill run.
Now I said, "they ain't give us trouble no more
that we ain't brought down on ourselves"
But a chain on my back and my ear to the floor
and I'll send all the Hill Boys to hell.

It's Decoration Day
and I've got a family in Mobile Bay
and they've never seen my Daddy's grave.
But that don't bother me, it ain't marked anyway.
Cause I got dead brothers in Lauderdale south
and I got dead brothers in east Tennessee.
My Daddy got shot right in front of his house
he had noone to fall on but me.

It's Decoration Day
and I've got a mind to go spit on his grave.
If I was a Hill, I'd have put him away
and I'd fight till the last Lawson's last living day.
I'd fight till the last Lawson's last living day.
I'd fight till the last Lawson's last living day.

here in Boulder it means a bunch of Denver suburbanites run a road race around town and pay 100$ to do it. Bolder Boulder. when it would cost nothing to do it any of the other 364 days a year. rock it out to a bunch of crap white "blues and or zydeco bands", the kind with guys in pastel shirts and maybe a headband playing congas and keyboards...ugh. party time with some Stevie Ray Vaughn covers. woo oo. wifey has a couple too many margs and it's hot yet brief sex in the hotel.

stupidest thing ever.

Based on the payroll I read about in the papers on how much lifeguards make in California I have to assume firefighters make somewhere north of $250 K per year. :D

You should come to the cabin and enjoy the high sierras. It's a bit of "country" without the smell of cow crap.

I elk hunt every year in Colorado up by Steamboat/Rabbit Ears. I have 320 acres with nary a cow on it. You should come out and enjoy God's country from the back porch or a 4-wheeler.

all in 16-6-1?

Huh? I fertilized part of it this year with a 36-10-6 mix, and the rest of it with 46-0-0. I don't know what 16-6-1 is unless it's the number of dicks you've sucked, the number of times you got paid for it, and the number of satisfied customers.

My sister & bro-in-law, who live in WI, had theirs removed (or whatever you would call it) & are very happy about it.
