I believe in his mind...he thinks if he does his time in a mental facility that he's getting away with it. Then there is the possibility that something years from now happens where a bleeding heart thinks he was just disturbed and decides that he is no longer a threat.

In this case....Making sure he doesn't get out isn't always the only thing to consider. The people who were forever affected by the brutal killings of this guy shouldn't have to forever be reminded of this guys brutal acts and if anyone is worthy of some State Funded Mental Care....it's the survivors.
