I'd say no if he stopped with the first shot, but with the other 5-6 shots i say yes.

So someone comes to your place of business and robs you at gunpoint. You feel so threatened that you feel you need to pull a gun to defend your life and the lives of your employees. So you go overboard defending yourself. So you go to jail because a little thug came to your place of business to rob and maybe kill you and you go to jail because you didn't behave perfectly while defending yourself and your employees?

I vote no.

Point #1. The kid was unarmed
Point #2. He was a 13 yr old kid coerced into doing it
Point #3. The kid was unconscious and no longer a threat
Point #4. Ersland turned his back on the kid to grab another gun and shoot him several times in the stomach

I think going to prison on a guided tour is a very educational and humbling experience, so I encourage Jerome to do so.

I didn't know there were so many bleeding heart liberals on this site that think murderers should get off scott free.

Send his azz to prison. If not, make sure you bleed him dry of any and all possessions.

I am undecided because I need more evidence..but you can put me down as a slight lean to jail time...

I agree completely. He obviously murdered the kid. Murderers should go to jail.

#1 Ersland didn't know he was unarmed.
#2 He was old enough to participate in an armed robbery. It doesn't matter if it turned out the kid was coerced.
#3 This is the key question. I don't think the security camera shows the kid laying on the ground, he is just out of range and you can't tell if he moved or tried to get back up. There were conflicting reports from multiple coroner's as to whether the kid died from the first gunshot or not. If he was already dead, it doesn't really matter if Ersland pumped 6 more shots in him.
#4 See #3.

I wonder if the jury will have the option to convict on a lesser charge. If so, I predict that will happen and Ersland is out in 2 years.

#4 See #3. Film is always open to interpretation in an artsy fartsy/forensic/legal way.

He was out on bail in less than 48 hours when an anonymous donor posted his exorbitant bail amount.

Ersland will be broke from lawyer fees after this is all over so his life is ruined whether he gets convicted or not.

Yeah, for doing such a poor job of raising them. If they had taught their kids not to rob pharmacies, then one of them would be alive and the other wouldn't be in jail for life.

This. The guy just happened to make sure this kid wouldn't rob anyone else. I am sorry, but if you are in the commission of a crime, you get what you deserve. No jail time and sue the families. That is what I am for. We need more people like this guy. It isn't like he seeked them out to murder them. They came to him looking for trouble. He gave them what they were looking for. A few more people like him and the crime rate goes way down.
