I have disdain for usc and Reggie bush. I was ecstatic when he brought them down. I hate cheaters. Just because a guy plays football for OU doesn't mean he gets a free pass to be a non productive member of society. He's been nothing but nice to me and my family. A lot of free BBQ and autographs. Anytime I see him he makes time to talk to us. My Kids who never got to see him play think his statue in Heisman park is awesome and when they see him they are always "Dad there's Billy!"

I'd quit listening to that bull**** if I were you. I really don't think he took a bunch of people's money. I know he really got some bad press over it from guys like Barry Tramel who hates Internet message Board posters unless it helps his career. Billy gave his ALL to OU. he stayed around for a 5th year, when, using hindsight, he should've gone pro after 4 yrs @ OU.

WE've (wife & i) been ariund him a few times. He (along with other players)was @ a "Sooners Club of Dallas" meeting, many yrs ago.

have also seen him around campus corner several times,on game day.

Wife got an autographed football, with sigs of Billy,Jason & Steve Owens.
they were all there (CC) singing the footballs. several years ago. we're

Billy is a very good guy, but like everybody else, has made some mistakes.

Great post ST..Billy is a legend at OU not only because he starred as a running back and won the Heisman Trophy, but because of how much he loved his days as a Sooner. Sure, he had some rough times. Very few of us go through life without some rough times. There was a period of time when he made bad investments, was reckless with his money, etc., but he fought back. Billy, to a large degree, has paid back the people, who have helped him.

Billy does get a sizable return on the restaurants' receipts. He works his butt off promoting him. It is not unusual for him to just show up at one of them. When he does, he goes from table to table talking to the patrons.

When OU is fortunate to have a Heisman nominee in New York City, I am glad that Billy is there to welcome him. If, for one hour every few years, Billy gets to yell "Boomer" while another Sooner great gets honored, so be it. He, by God, earned the right to say "Boomer" or "Sooner" or "Boomer Sooner" any damn time he chooses.

I see you want to be able to say whatever you want about whoever. But you don't want to extend that right to anyone that doesn't agree with you.

Billy Sims hasn't changed over the years. Billy acts like Billy. Hell Billy acts a lot like Barry Switzer who was just as much a mentor to Billy as a coach.

It's not your place to tell Billy to tone it down. If the people you claim were embarrassed by Billy actually were they would quit inviting him to every possible event known to mankind. Are you and dyner's mailboxes full of invitations?

Sam Bradford was embarrassed? He said he wasn't when asked about it. His dad told me it was funny and really lightened the mood and he enjoyed it. But you think you know more about the situation than Kent Bradford?

When Billy Sims did his Boomah routine at the Heisman ceremony, I cringed a little. Even Bradford look super uncomfortable. And if Billy really did curse at opposing fans, then I would have cringed, too. Whether it is fair or not, Billy is in the public eye and is therefore held to a higher standard than Joe T-Shirt Fan. Some of you are so defensive that you think the slightest criticism of a former player is an attack on all Soonerdom. I do not understand how anyone can make the leap that saying that Billy can be embarrassing is they same as claiming to be a better sooner. What does that even mean? Is there some sort of point system involved in being a better sooner? Other than being blind to any negatives related to current and former players, what else is required to be an Ultimate Sooner?

Everyone looked embarrassed except Billy. It was tacky. Does that mean I hate Billy? Nope. I also loved my great aunt that would get drunk at Thanksgiving and set the sofa on fire before passing out.


Just so I understand the "ultimate fan" mentality...

It depends on the coach. It was always okay to call out Chuck Long, but calling out Bob Stoops is discouraged unless we've just lost a game.
