Rom, get a real pool. Your family won't have to hang their heads in shame.

Better yet, get one of those above ground spas with one of those lattice gazebos. With the state in a drought, you can save water.

As an HOA board member myself, you may not be able to prevent them from putting in one. If CC&R's don't say anything about the type of pool, then the homeowner is free to choose...no matter how bad their decision.

Depending on the water table, sometimes fiberglass pools are unable to be drained for fear of them popping out of the ground, especially if done in a time of low water and later the ground saturates.

Address these questions with the homeowner, and maybe it will scare them from their white trashery. Then have them get written guarantees from the pool company that the pool won't pop out or lift should they insist on fiberglass.

Is this one of those in-ground fiberglass jobs? Those are pretty good actually and last a long freaking time.

It's a huge step up from my "pool." When I'm cutting hay and it's hotter than hell I often fill up a 300-gallon stock tank and take the plunge. It works. Bad thing is the water that comes outta my well is about 60ish. It's colder than a mofo.

Are they putting in concrete/dry deck coping? If they are I don't see why it would make any difference. I think they *can* look better than a lot of liner pools when done well.

There are some now that I can't tell are fiberglass. I would not have one, but they are getting better.
