Seriously though, it's going to be a great series. Looking forward to the banter on here. Hoping the 7 game series takes a toll on the Thunder. Mavs really needed the time off.

Well, I think the same number of people care.

It's just that a large segment of the Sooner fanbase that roots for OU during the actual RRS are rooting for Dallas in this series. :D

Agree. I'd take him over probably 90% of other major sports franchise owners. He loves his team, he is always looking for ways to improve the fan experience, and he isn't afraid to spend money.

Until Nolan recently got involved in controlling the Rangers, he was clearly the best owner among the other Dallas franchise owners in Hicks and Jerruh

Free Throws

OKC 37-43
Dallas 34-36

Not to mention Durant flying into the first row and drawing an absolute phantom foul on JET in the first half.

Or Perkins inadvertent elbow on Marion that broke his nose.

Well, they're hung up on the 24 free throw attempts that Durant got.

Nevermind that the last 2 came off a Russell Westbrook foul to intentionally send Dirk to the line. Or that Durant got 19.

So in the normal flow of play, Dirk got 3 more free throw attempts than Dirk did. And somehow, that factored into the outcome.

Just. Stop. OK?

Both players got a ridiculous benefit from the star system of officiating. A benefit that neither player will probably get in any other game in this series.

Instead of looking at Joey Crawford, how about looking at your All Star PG who went 3 for 15 from the field with no 3 pointers? Or your bench that poured in a grand total of 16 points?

Really, some of you are acting like Oklahoma State fans. :D

Durant shoots an *** load of free throws..2nd in attempts in the league behind dwight howard..Westbrook is 8th...I don't understand what the big deal is..

Durant gets those kinds of call all the time.

5/18/2011, 03:41 PM
I just fail to understand how 2 different series can be officiated so radically different. OKC vs Memphis didn't get a foul called unless blood was drawn. I don't care about the amount of free throws, OKC is a more physical team than Dallas. Calling a game so ridiculously tight changes the flow of the game. The officials controlled that game more than they should.

That said, Dirk shot out of his mind and Westbrook never left the locker room. Sucks to spot Dallas a game, but I don't think the rest of the series will go this way.

Its not about the number of FTs that Dirk shot, its about the number of touch fouls that they called on OKC against Dirk

It's a great matchup, not sure which team will win...but I do know this:

1.) Dirk is good, but he played out of his mind. He probably averages 25-28 points per game, not 48. That won't happen very often.
2.) Jet scored 24 points. He averages around 16 points I would guess. That won't happen every game.
3.) JJ Barea scored 21 points. He averaged 9.1 points over the season. That won't happen every game.

Take away any one of those three and the Thunder win game 1. The Mavs may still win it all, but I don't see them shooting out of their minds through the entire series. Good shooting is good shooting, but playing unconscious seldom lasts.

That has been the thing that has been different about this Mavs team though. It used to be that teams knew Dirk was going to get his so they focused on shutting down Terry, the Mavs primary secondary scorer. However, this time around it has really been Dirk and then secondary scorer by committee. Some nights it's Terry with a big game, other times it has been Barea. Peja has had some big scoring games, as has Kidd. Then there are even nights where Marion and Chandler chip in more on the offensive end than normal.

This versatility has allowed the Mavs to become far less predictable on offense and has helped to keep opposing defenses off balance.

Ruf/Nek7
5/19/2011, 11:31 AM
Everbody is talking about offense and shedding little light on defense. Truth is, even when the Mavs have found themselves down, it hasn't been by much at all.

GrapevineSooner
5/19/2011, 01:14 PM
Double team anyone?

You do that, and you risk the Mavs 3 point shooters going nuts.

Granted, I don't think we'll ever see a performance like Game 4 against the Lakers. But Peja's a renowned 3 point shooter, which I'm sure many in OKC already know since he played for New Orleans during those 2 years they played most of their home games in OKC.

Not mention, Kidd's really improved on his spot up 3's.

And to be sure, the Mavs face that same threat from Westbrook and Harden if Durant ever gets hot and they try to double team him.

If either of them get hot, you just have to hope for the best in defending them and also hope that nobody else compliments them. Because as devastating as Dirk was on offense against the Thunder defense, the kill shots were delivered by JJ and JET.

If Durant's on and he gets help from Westbrook in any of the other games this series, OKC could be just as deadly.
