The article neglected to mention that it was a Centennial project meant to commemorate the 100-year history of Oklahoma, which included the state universities and their football programs. Thus, the statues were up in time for the Centennial year (the final two went up in 2007) and while OSU was offered a Barry Sanders statue, they declined (perhaps fearing that either Barry wouldn't show up for the ceremony, or that it would be very lonely)

Sooooo, is it really so bad to put up statues when the state pays for them, commissioned to be produced by our state's own artists in honor of our state's 100-year history?

A lot different than other guys playing catch-up to us

Love this comment:

There's nothing wrong with a Heisman Park. Heck, in Stillwater, if we ever get another one, T Boone will build an amusement park around around it, complete with reflection pools, an amphitheater, Pistol Pete food court, and a "Bullet' ride.

Probably in town for this:

This controversy is topical locally, because a statue of former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford will be unveiled at a fund-raising event this Saturday in Oklahoma City.

It's part of the "Sooner Spectacular" at the Cox Pavilion, as OU celebrates the legacy and tradition of its athletic programs. It will cost $250 per person, with the money going to the new Sooner Housing Center.

Or because he's locked out of his house at St. Louis :(

Heisman Park is great and brings great pride. Glad they also bronzed Bennie, Bud, Barry, and Bob.

Proud that we don't retire players jerseys.

But, my gawd, something has to be done for Leroy Selmon and other great players on the wrong side of the ball to win the Heisman. Think about Rod Shoate - a three time All-American. Let that sink in.

We should also have a heroes area for Don Key, Bob Kalsu, and maybe a kid like Corey Wilson.

Is it August yet?? No? Well it can't get here soon enough.

What about that statue of Sam Bradford upside-down in heisman park from a few weeks ago? Is this one different than that one? Was that a fake or something?

Who cares what Bryant Gumbel says -- he's a has-been blowhard.
